well i was reading honda-tuning and this is what i read about the J1 tranny...
"the J1 is a great tranny and will be far better than the LS. the Y1 limited-slip differential will fit in the J1 if u use the y1's countershaft. You could also use the type r limited slip diff if u put a 4.40 final drive on it to make it fit. there is no way to fit a larger final drive (such as a 4.7) in the J1 case without serious modification to the case. you'll want to use a 90-91 integra clutch with the J1, the 92-93 clutch will not fit. by DB."
what else can i upgrade on my J1 tranny?

part of it doesn't make sense. I've read on here at HT that you can put in the Y1 LSD's and keep the J1 4:40 final drive, all you have to use is the ring gear from the J1's differential. Why would you want to go through all that trouble to make your J1 with a 4.40 FD brought down to a 4.26 FD from the Y1's? Unless you want to turbo the car and mess with the gearing, but even then .....I dunno I'm stumped.

well i got the J1 pretty cheap... so i wanted to upgrade with oem parts. also i'm still looking into whether turbo or all motor.
what else fit into the j1 casing?

what else fit into the j1 casing?</TD></TR></TABLE>well my suggestion would first look into upgrading the differential. The stock diff in that J1, S1, and non LSD Y1's are a ticking bomb.
I had a J1, and quote that I "had" since the diff pin gave out on my and sent the spider gears bursting out of the casing while on the freeway doing 75mph.
The weakest link in that tranny is the non-hardened diff pin (unless you already have LSD).

Bingo!! My pin gave out also and the pinion slid out of the diff and tore the case apart.

Oh dear... My S1 being torqued by my big B20 could blow up, eh? Now I'm scared. I don't know much about trannies... other than getting a limited slip, is there another way (read: cheaper way) to fix this potential problem?
thanks

Oh yeah while you're at it might as well replace the synchros. That's my suggestion though.

Call Gear-Speed...they can tell you what you can and can't do, and they have a line on just about any part you could dream of putting in your transmission. They are a little on the steep side though, but they do good work.
