Default need help with 1988 prelude

My friend has an 88 prelude. i don't know if it's an si or an s. Anyway, just wanted to know the gap for the spark plugs. He just replaced the plugs, wires, and distributor cap and it worked fine for a wile, then it sounds like it misfires. I'm thinking that he put in plugs that were too hot, but the guy at the parts store gave him the replacements, so I don't know whats wrong. I'm gonna take a look at it tomorrow, and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

what brand name did you use for plugs, wires, cap? and it will make a difference if the car is an s or si. the s is carbureted sohc and the si is fuel injected dohc. very big difference.

Found that it is an s. Anyway, there was oil all over the threads and on the electrode on the #3 spark plug. **start sarcasm** I think there is something wrong with his engine **end sarcasm** What could be the problem? Should I do a compression check?

there shouldn't be any oil on the spark plugs. that means that something is leaking that shouldn't be. i am not familiar with that motor - i just know the si motors for the 88-91 ludes, so i don't know where the plugs are located in that motor. are they through the top of the valve cover, or through the front of the block? if they go through the top of the valve cover, i would have the head gasket changed and do the valve cover gasket set changed too. then i would get a new plug and new set of wires (again) and replace the oil covered ones.

The sparkplugs are in the front of the block, below the valve cover. Gonna do a compression check. Hopefully nothing is catastrophically wrong.
