Recommendations for racing gloves and shoes....
just looking for something decently nice and decently priced for a few weekend track events... i'm open to anyone's opinion....
I like Simpson.
Reasonably priced. Fits well. Lasts about 3 to 4 racing seasons.
I bought my current shoes and gloves at the start of 2002 and they have held up very well. The shoes are good for another couple of seasons. The gloves will be replaced after this year simply because sweat has made the leather palms all hard and crusty.
No holes. No unraveling seams. No nuthin'.

I just got the Sparco Premium gloves and I'm very happy with them. Extremely comfortable and flexible. Sparco shoes are good too....

Some places even give honda-tech discounts.

I got some Sparco gloves that I like alright, but next time I think I'll get one size larger. These fit perfectly (like a glove???) but are pretty tough to get off once they are soaked with sweat. I've ripped one of the seams now from pulling them off too aggressively. The NASA spot inspection guy told me to either replace them or sew them up with Nomex thread. Ever try to find Nomex thread?
Like I said, next time I'm getting one size larger.

It sounds weird, but I use motorcycle gloves. They have an incredible amount of flexibility, they are light, and the leather seems to grip very well. I can also wear them when I ride a bike
For shoes, I use RJS. They're a great company with a long history of making safety equipment. This is the 3rd season on the gloves, and second season on the shoes, and I'm not looking to replace either anytime soon.

Believe it or not the best pair of gloves I have ever owned are the cheapest (or less costly to term it). I've owned Momo's (way overpriced), Sparcos (shrink when they get sweaty), OMP (terrible quality) and lastly the worst ones were Alpine Starts which I had two pairs ripped out the seams near the wrist area.
The best pair I have owned are hands down the G-Force gloves I bought at Beaverun early 04. They cost me about $89.00 and have been through two Honda Challenge seasons, one 12 Hour race, and some outdoor karting. They are a bit stained from the sweat but are still soft and have no tears, rips, or seams coming loose.
Sometimes cheaper is better
Regards,
Jon

I'm thrilled with my $60 Sparcos that I bought at the Road Atlanta pro shop. They're really comfy and have a suede palm. Like everything Sparco I've ever seen, the quality is first rate. I think mine are called the "Speed."

I'm using the same Sparco Premium gloves Matt mentioned above... I like them a lot, they fit my particular hand very well. They can be tough to get out of/wriggle into when sweaty, not sure if that's different with other gloves though.
I picked up some of the new GForce mid-top boots, their general product quality has gotten a LOT better with their new line of stuff. The boots are darn comfortable, interior is holding up pretty well too.
