Default CTR conversion on 00 si. Help.

car: 00 si - 88,000 miles

Current setup: Mugen 4-1 header, CAI, and 2.5 piping w/ oval exaust.

I believe my engine type is B16a2 (correct if im wrong). I am looking to upgrade my engine to meet the 00 CTR specification, using as much of the existing parts that i have now possible to save cost. I know that mainly the internals are going to need some swapping. I like the O.E. for reliabilty since im a daily driver. So if anyone with knowledge help me with a list of what should be done in addition to all the parts i need to run 185 whp or just about with a $1,700 budget. Thanks in advance.

With $1,700 i think you can get 185whp or more.

id say get a gsr short block with some itr/si/ctr pistons, then port polish your b16 head then upgraded springs, retainers, vlaves, and get some stage 2 cams (skunk2 or crower or what ever you prefer). Then a intake manifold, GOOD header, 2.5 exhaust all the way back, and a intake. that should be around $1700 but you sohuld sell your b16 short block too. It might put you way over your budjet with everything i mentioned lol. and o yea tuning is always a good idea.

poor mans type r.

and IMO i dont think the ctr motor is that great of a motor. but thats just me, other people have different opinions. too much money for too little ponies.

edit - or you can go turbo.
