Default Calling all "IDLE" experts - need help

wtf i cant seem to have a normal idle. Now the problem is when i first start the car. Right after i turn it on it stalls. I try again and it almost stalls, and it goes up and down from 0-500 and shakes real bad. After driving it for a while, it idles normal at 750. Seems like after the car is warmed up its fine. what is the problem here?

First of all I would turn the idle up to about 850, that works best for me. What year is it, it might be the Idle air control.

Id start with raising the idle up to about 1500rpm. Then lowering it down to a desired idle speed and seeing if any problems arise. If it doesnt even idle at the higher speed, then you have a more serious problem. Engine type would help

jdm b16a1....its not the level of idle, its the fact that it fluctuates very low up and down on start up. After that it idles closer to normal.

Can't get mine to hot idle right either. Been screwing with the vacuum lines forever, don't know what to do either. I'm thinking of just replacing all the vacuum lines with new ones now.

So, what should you do.

first, make sure your lines are right. this is hard to figure out, do some searches in the archive for vacuum diagrams.

second, if you ever figure this out let me know. Seems like mine only fluctuates in traffic and at stop lights, the second I stick it in the driveway to figure out what's wrong it evens out.

My advice would be to make sure that your guys' Idle Air Control valve is working right. Most of them are controlled by the temp. of your coolant.

A second Idea, is a vacuum leak somwhere other than your vacuum lines. I would check the throttle body gasket and the intake manifold gasket.

Just my 2 cents

iavc has been checked and cleaned already. I know it has something to do with the thermostat. Ever since i had it rewired to turn on automatically(before i had a manual switch), the idle problems started. I might just wait till i put in a new tb/manifold and redo eevrything.

this might not help, but strikingly similar symptoms on my 300zx = fuel injector in the process of failing

its free(if you have a voltmeter) and easy to check

resistance between the two connectors on top of the injector should be between 1.5 - 2.5 ohms

edit: the ohm readings are for a d16a6. i have no idea if these are the same for the b16. you should probably find that out if you decide to check the injectors lol

It could be as simple as a vaccum leak, or idle air control!
