Hey everyone, I did a search, but the details of the swap couldn't be found.
I have decided to swap in an LS 5th gear on my GSR. It is my auto-X/road trip car, and after looking at the ratios, and LS 5th would be perfect for long trips up the coast or out to Vegas.
Obviously, I could buy an LS tranny and just pull out the components, but when I was on http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org tonight, I noticed that brand new gears from Honda are less than $80.00!! Some are as low as $45.00. I would much rather just buy the parts I need brand new, than buy a whole used tranny and only use one gear from it.
So my question is: what componments are needed to swap gears, just the main and counter gears? Or do I need special syncros. Is it a straight drop-in? Or do things need to be modified. I've done tranny work before, just not on Hondas so anyone who's done this before, please share your experience.
If it's just a matter of swapping the two gears, then I hope have this done before the end of the year.
Thanks

Come on, I read that lots of guys have done this.
No one has done a write-up of it though.
All I want to know is, do I just swap gears or are there fitment/alignment issues?
Thanks

Great find, though I noticed that someone asked my question, but no one answered it: "Does the 94+ LS 5th swap straight into the 94+ GSR?"
This article refers to the 90-91 Integras, is it the same for 94+ engines?
I just want to know if the 5th gear syncros and shaft splines match, that way I just need to buy the gears.
Thanks

well i cant tell you exactly for sure, im kinda asking the same things about LSD in another thread.
but IT should swap, cable tranny gears to cable tranny gears /hydro tranny gears to hydro tranny gears.
but B careful doingthis. because clearance's among the gears matter alot. you will need the Primary and Secondary Gears from the ls tranny, also get the syncro's.
make sure you clearance the gears once the shafts are tq'ed. 2 little clearance = seize of the transmission.
