Default Help with my new B16 CRX

Hey guys, first off a little intro. I just picked up an 88 CRX as a nice winter ride while I put my WRX up for the winter, I owned an RSX-S a few years ago, so I'm not completely new to Honda's, but not too familiar with them yet either.

Anyway, heres my question; Its got a B16 swapped into it, and the previous owner bought a new distributor for it, but aparently it's defective (the cars back home, I go to pick it up next weekend). Basically what I want to know is with the B16 what kind of distributor do I need to buy? I know alot of Honda parts are interchangable through the years, so should I look for a distributor for an 88 CRX or get one for the motor (I think its out of a 93 Del Sol, the 160hp one), or are they basically one in the same? Any help will be apreciated, thanks.

I believe it depends on which OBD you're running. Chances are it's OBD0, so you'll need an OBD0 first gen B16A distributor. Not too easy to come by but they are out there. You can also rebuild yours using parts (cap/rotor?) from the 90-93 integra. Do a search...plenty of info about it online.

By any chance do you happen to know what years were obd0 with the B16? I would imagine the early 90's models...? And do you know if their different for the SOHC and DOHC B16's? I know this is asking a lot but any knowledge would be helpful, thanks for the input

There is no such thing as a SOHC b16a. If your distributor has grey plugs than it is OBD-1. If they are clearish then that is OBD-0. You can not buy an OBD-0 distributor from Honda or any parts store. http://www.distributorking.com and Ebay are your only hopes. Tell me what color the plugs are...

Thanks for the link. Someone who knows out there, could you tell me if this is the proper part. I talked to the person who sold me the car today and he said it is a JDM VTEC B16, not a US model. This is the one I figure should work properly, but it never hurts to ask someone who knows, and the last owner already bought the wrong one (I talked to him today, its not defective he just has a NON-VTEC distributor on there supposedly), so I'd rather not make the same mistake, thanks.
