17x8inch rim on 5th gen?
Unlike the 6th Gen's which use a 4 link independent suspention system in the rear, The 5th Gens' use a 3 link / strut set up (refer illustration link (#2 or #3)) which limits the width of both the rim and tire in the rear.
As an example, I've a '97 SE with the OEM 15x6 alloy rims with 215/60/15 Toyo tires; and this set up gives me clearances of 1/2" in the rear (between tire/strut) and 1.0" (suspension compressed) between tire/fender.
I've seen other posts for 17x6.5 and 17x7 (with offset considerations), but you may run into problems with an 8"

a 16 x 8 wheel can fit on a 4th gen accord:
a friend's 16 x 8 wheel... relatively high at +50... runs a 10mm spacer in the rear to make the effective offset +40. his rear fenders are slightly trimmed/cut on the inside.

and since 4th gen and 5th gens are pretty similar suspension wise, it should translate for the most part.
simply, if you're not willing to modify your rear fender (cut/trim/roll), the width and offset of those wheels are not for you. if you are willing to modify the rear fender, then you're in business.
simply answer- if you're at stock height, you'll probably be ok (though the fitment will look like crap). the lower you get, the harder it will be given the dimensions of the wheel (i.e. the rear will be close to flush with the fender).

well the rims are used so cant really change the size but might end up getting them and running a 10mm spacer at each wheel
