So Any Good Stories......?
I'll start.
Today I was headed up to the local mountains for a leisurely Sunday ride. I got off to a late start so I know there's probably more people on the roads, etc. than early mornings. It's also the second day of the hunting season here and there were tons of hunters parked along side the roads rifles ready yesterday.
I was just starting my ascent when I came upon another rider on a red `05 R6. The road looked clean and with no cars ahead to slow us up so we throttled into the beckoning turns.
A few turns up the road we were met by the rear bumper of a couple hunters in an old beat up Chevrolet 350 pickup truck. They seemed to be intentionally hugging the double yellow anticipating a pass (which would force us into the oncoming traffic) at the same time driving really slow.
The unknown rider ahead of me thought he saw an opportunity to pass as the car swerved right giving him a foot or two to pass safely. Boy was he wrong! I heard the downshift and the accelation of the engine speed. The red R6 went for it. No sooner he did this ol' Billy Joe the Redneck decides he gonna run the kid into the other lane by not only swerving at him but reaching out the window to grab him. OH JESUS HELP ME.
The R6 countered by throttling up and away from the truck doing his best to avoid the side of the 3 ton vehicle and the attempted molestation by the country boy. The truck went all the way across the double yellow himself just to do this. WTF was he thinking ....... I don't know........and I don't care cuz, "I am gonna crack his dome when he stops the truck," I am thinking. Thankfully there were no oncoming vehicles coming down the mountain. Mind you the road is very twisty with a lot of blind corners. There could've been a semi 20 ft up and no one would've been the wiser.
Anyhow the kid pull ahead of the truck and back into his lane, shooken up no doubt, but ok. Meanwhile the fucktard decides he isn't done with his heroic services to America. He starts swerving into the double yellows again thinking thats gonna stop me from passing then back again towards the shoulder. This was done in combination with sudden and unpredictable mashing on his break pedal.
At this point I have aligned with his mirror and only feet away from the rollled down window. I shouted for him to pull the expletive over several times. His ***** *** wouldn't of course. I was so mad I think I used every curse word I could think of.
This whole time another rider on a dirt bike was watching the whole thing in disbelief. Behind him was a Subaru Impreza. All watching to see what assnine expressions of heroism the wonderhick had up his sleeve next.
Next thing you know he swerves hard left and throws a lit cigarette out the window missing me while the ashes blow across my visor harmlessly. This was followed by a harsh slam of his breaks so I had no choice but to swerve right. The road was now wide open on the right and we had just entered a nice straight so I did what came natural at the moment and gunned it. I passed his bed in what felt like a millisecond. The quarter panels were muddy and chipped, with bits of rust coming through. This moment was short but felt incredibly long at the moment. The sun hit the polished metal door handle and I was just about homefree. Just then his toofless tobacco chewin' co-pilot alerted him to my presence on the right. He swerved right. He swerved hard..... I saw the incoming danger and noticed that the throttle was pinned. I had nothing left. A downshift would have hit the rev-limiter and left me even more vulnerable. I ducked. The mirror came at me like a quick jab. I leaned right to give me more clearance but it just wasn't enough. Hugging my gas tank the mirror hit my left shoulder. I winced in pain as it twisted on its hinged pivot and glanced off the armor in my jacket. Unfortunatley his swerve was faster than my bike. Probably yours or anyone for that matter, because he swerved at me while his front tire was just ahead of mine. This led to the inevitable. I looked right and nothing but weeds and a sharp 200' decent. There was no way in hell I was gonna go out like this. I had to think quick. The white line on the shoulder was quickly ensuing as well as the dried out dead tumbleweeds on the side of the road. No matter what I was going to have to go somewhere other than the same piece of road we were both occupying as his right front fender was pushing against my knee sliders at this point and soon my frame slider. Though this may seem like enough time to break and fall back it was not. Fortunately just as he pressed harder the shoulder opened up into a dusty dirt turnout. I thanked god and turned into it like you see the GP riders when to they loose their lines and go four bying into the weeds. I wasn't sure what to expect, as if the dirt was deep I knew there was a good chance the front end would dig and I would turn into a huge cloud of dust, plastic and weeds, but I held on and eased both the front and rear brakes simultaneously. The bike weaved side to side as I hit rocks and debris under the layer of golden dirt but it had the same attitude as its rider. It was not going out like this.
What happened next was a complete knee jerk reaction as I was still on auto-pilot. As I started to slow I couldn't see things the way I did before. I looked at the runoff ahead. Then I looked at the truck and its human cargo. It was red. I looked at the mountain and at the water over of the side of the cliff. RED. Everything was literally red.
I get pissed off all the time mind you. Up until this point I didn't think anyone could **** me off more than my old woman, but I was wrong. I wanted justice, and if it came in the form of someone else blood then that was the way it had to be.
The guy on the dirt bike slowed to see what he most certainly anticipated to be the worst crash due to the assault of an passenger vehicle he was ever going to witness.
When I slowed I looked at him and we made eye contact. He looked at me like he couldn't believe that I held it together. I turned back towards the road and cut my way throught the dust. He shouted somethings which couldn't be made out at the moment as I had earplugs in and they were most likely to be droned out by our exhausts any way.
His hands waved me on. We were not going to let this guy get away. I shook my head in disbelief over what just happened as I started to commit his plate to memory.
As we came around the next bend in the road I saw in the distance across the canyon a group of about 20 riders. Hmm.... I thought.
As soon as we got to the group I pulled up and told them what happened and if they wanted to see what happened next to follow me. I took off and could see them running to their bikes to saddle up.
The next 20 minutes had to be the longest for this waste of flesh as a quick glance in the rearview would appear to be about the greatest asswhooping in history.
I will leave off here and let your imagination take over as I can't say its my proudest moment. But gawddamn I couldn't be happier to be home in one piece swillin some hops while telling you guys the story.
So who's next...?

Sorry guys, the details will have to be witheld for now as my 'far-fetched' encounter seems to already have hurt the pu$$ies of some of our MC forum bretheren who feel every post should be a sterling example of goodness.
Sorry, but when someone physically attempts to take my life and that of others I'm not going to sit back and let it continue. I feel my moral obligation is to prevent such a thing from occuring in the future if there is something in my power to prevent it.
Hold me responsible for any such medieval acts that follow an encounter of this caliber if you want. I never said I was or ever want to be an example for others to follow.
But you have to admit. That fools karma ran out. It could have been a group of 5 bikers, but it wasn't. Makes you think he must've ran a lot of us off the road over the years to deserve 20!!
I guess it was meant to be.

(2:50 PM 10/10/2005) RebornGSR: Your story was a bit far fetched, not sure if it's the writing syle or what. Either way if the story is true it's a sad example of how not to handle a driver with a case of road rage.
(3:16 PM 10/10/2005) gumtape_deathmatch: Dude whats your problem.....? If you don't like my 'writing style' thats fine. If you think its far fetched that cool too, cuz I am still in disbelief at yesterdays unfortunate events myself. What I don't understand is your negative attitude about it.
How exactly was it a sad example of how to not handle a driver with a case of road rage? I did absolutely nothing wrong, nor did I or anyone on the road deserve such mistreatment.
Perhaps your attitude is a result of an assumption on your part you beleive to be true. I assure you that there was not a single lie in the story. I also assure you that the story is incomplete as told to H-T, for personal reasons. So how do you know that we didn't flag down some law enforcement and assist in detaining a drunk driver help get his *** removed from the road and put behind bars before wounding or killing innocent people? You don't.
(3:28 PM 10/10/2005) RebornGSR: So someone passing a drunk diver over the double yellow is a smart thing to do?
Then you decide to try and foce him to pull over on your 400 lb bike? That's real smart.
The smart thing to do would have been to not loose your head and try to play hero, what did you think was going to happen when you pulled up next to in an attempt him force him to pull over? Yes sir, Mr. Motorcycle man!
Don't get all pissy at me because you put your own life in danger so you could try and play hero.
Either:
-Follow him until he stops then call the police.
-or-
-Pull over, call the police then follow him until they arrive.
Playing bumper cars with a truck = no props from me
(3:52 PM 10/10/2005) gumtape_deathmatch: The more you type the less confidence I have for your ability to read and write.
Are you blind?
The kid didn't pass over the double yellow. There was plenty of room to pass to the left and the truck swerved at him forcing him across the double yellow.
Oh and in case you have more delusions, we were under the speed limit.
The derelit hit the breaks and swerved left, while throwing **** out the window. I had no choice but to go right. These series of events unfolded in the matter of seconds. The motorcyclist behind me had to break so hard the Impreza almost rear ended him!
Again you are talking out your ***! Did I not just say there was a good possibility we did follow him while seeking the help of the local law enforcement to apprehend this expletive.
Dude seriously, you think you're issues might be bigger than H-T?
(4:59 PM 10/10/2005) RebornGSR: From what I read it was a one lane road in each direction. Sharing a lane to pass a car is just as dangerous, or more so then passing over the double yellow. I'm not excusing the trucks actions nor am I praising you for yours. Maybe it's just a misunderstanding on my part and I'm getting the wrong impression from the story.
You sure are making a big issue out of me replying with I feel like I just read the script of torque II. Did you PM .paul also? I'd love to see what that said.
Instead of trying to go right and pass the truck in the shoulder you could have just hit the brakes like the motorcycle behind you. Could have avoided your whole near death experience but then you wouldn't have a crazy stories/experience to post now would you.
I didn't bash you in my first post or publicly criticize you because I know a lot of people here in the moto section are very sensitive as you have just proved to me. You need to get some tougher skin and realize everyone isn't going to always see things your way.
I hate ******* drivers as much as the next person, but trying to pass them in there own lane isn't going to solve anything. It's only going to cause more problems as you proved in your post. Props to you for implying that you may have tracked the guy down with the help of police though.

Hmm, yeah...sharing is lane is somewhat dangerous I agree.....though not quite as dangerous as going riding the day after a heavy night of drinking, hangover in tow. I think your exploded boots can attest to that. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1334565
Yet, you don't see me flapping my gums with some lame comment. Because well frankly, its just not necessary. Why? Well, I think it was a lesson well learned and yeah its sad that you had to learn that the hard way. But sometimes thats just the way it is. Secondly, because just like crossing a double yellow its something that most won't condone but neither will they deny having done it at least once. So if you can sit here and tell me you haven't, you sir are a hypocrite and that attitude is something I would expect of GDD.
I don't have eyes on the back of my head. The whole situation was very tight with the motorcyclist and the Impreza within just feet of my rear tire. I might react and slow in time to save my ***, but what about the people behind me? The same can't be said for them. A direct application of the breaks to prevent rear ending the truck, (in my best split second judgement) would have resulted in my being rearended by not only the bike but the Impreza as well.
to me for thinking that taking a moment to attempt to help a fellow biker understand a situation he (as your post shows) clearly doesn't understand would change his high-horse attitude. You still don't get it and you probably never will.
Tougher skin....Blah Blah Blah. If you have something to say to me expect me to have something to say back.
I tried discussing it with you man to man but you clearly never were taught how to do that as posting our entire PM conversation is obviously proof of this. I also did this to prevent you from looking like a tool but you went ahead and did that to yourself.
I don't think that everyone has to see eye to eye with me. And you can continue to try and bash my thread all you want. It doesn't change the fact that I did what I felt was best in an emergency situation. Everyone there that day agreed. No innocent were harmed and the offenders have hopefully learned their lesson never to use deadly force with a 4000lb. vehicle. That's assault with a deadly weapon! To me thats a w1n for all innocent motorists on the road that day.
So instead of the better than thou attitude try being grateful that there's not another god-forbid RIP thread owning page 1 of our forum. It speaks volumes for about your character.
Well...yep....I have nothing left to say to you.

OMG, you do ride a motorcycle right...?
Well, if you do then you know that dangerous situations as Gum described are not entirely unavoidable. Perhaps you lack experience on the road of knowing that the odds of what was described above happening to you are unfortunatley very high.
I would like to see what you would've done since you seem to think it was so easy to handle yourself in disastrous surroundings and cirumstances that would've made most experienced riders panic. It's guys like you that think they are gods gift to two wheels, then jam on the brakes and make a bad situation worse.
I give Kudos to Gum for handling it like a responsible rider. He didn't say he punched off his mirrors and kicked in his door panels did he? I've personally known several riders who would've done so for much less.
If doing the right thing means being a 'hero' to you, then I guess the world needs more heros, cuz most people would've been to afraid to do a damn thing.
BTW, whats that in your avatar? Is that a biker drinking a beer and crashing? Kinda queer you criticising others for poor examples with a picture like that under your name don't you think?

If doing the right thing means being a 'hero' to you, then I guess the world needs more heros, cuz most people would've been to afraid to do a damn thing.
BTW, whats that in your avatar? Is that a biker drinking a beer and crashing? Kinda queer you criticising others for poor examples with a picture like that under your name don't you think?
There is a difference between our two posts.
You posted a story I'd expect to read in Kills and expected props from everyone that came in here and read it.
I posted a story about a mistake I made in hopes that someone would learn something from it and not have to make the same mistake as me.
Did you miss this part?
I realize that this all was totally my fault and there are about 20 things that I could have done differently to prevent all of this. The fact is I dropped the ball and it's no one's fault but my own. I fucked up bad.
If someone came in and called me a ******* jackass and everything else they had on their mind it would have been totally deserved. I didn't expect anything less. I speed, have passed over a double yellow and a lot of other things. Everyone has and most people will continue to. That doesn't mean it's right and when it's done riders should anticipate the possibly of pissing off people in cars.
Everyone makes bad decisions and breaks the law or crosses a double yellow occasionally while riding. It's bound to happen. I think character comes from when it finally catches up to you. At that time you can either try to hardest to justify it or admit your mistakes and be a man about them.

It's an inside joke a long time ago from kills that I keep there for people who remember those days.
All I was trying to say was that riders need to be a bit more responsible for their actions. We're not innocent and neither are the cages.

Oh, it's just a joke......well then I guess that makes it okay.
I think you get the idea.

gumtape...
I'm a bit confused, could you clear this up for me?
I thought lane sharing was for the highways, where there are multiple lanes going the same direction... not for twisting winding country roads.
It sounds to me like you were going to pass the truck on a double-yellow, but not going into the other lane.. staying in your (and the truck's lane).
I dont know the California laws regarding passing.
