hey guys, im shopping around for a bike and i came across a 96zx6r i got him down to 2500


i called him he said he just dropped it a couple days ago nothing bad but he says it needs a new stator cover.


he said i cant test ride it without one, he said to give him a 1500 down and he'll get it fixed within a week, he also said he'll take down his price to 2300 the bike looks pretty good

question is, what is a stator cover? its basicly a valve cover for ur motorcycle isnt it?
i belive he said it was the engine cover but stator cover is the same name right?

 

The stator case covers the stator on one side of the engine. The stator is one component of your bike's charging system.

I don't believe giving him the money up front to fix the stator / replace the case is a good idea. If he wants to sell it, he should have it fixed. If he doesn't want to fix it, then offer him less than $2500.

 

i c, ok i found a 97 zx6r with 50,000 miles new tires, bike looks pretty good, jet kit, yoshi pipe clean title i got him down to 2400

alot of miles though is this a decent price?

 

personally i think both are asking a little much but thats just me... plus id be a little weary of buying a bike with 50,000 mi on that i didnt know the complete history of

 

anyone know much about 97 zx6rs? what are there main problems for this year good bike? things to look for when test driven?

I believe they're pretty well built. Mostly the usual suspects - cam chain tensioner and regulator/rectifier. Consider it to be a clone of the CBR F3.
