..tranny oil/fluid usually works for transmissions.....

but yea i know its kinda wierd but that 17mm is where u fill the tranny fluid...use a small tube and have it come up and then use a funnel..if your fill bolt is stripped/rounded which is VERY common, you can just pull the pasenger side axle out and fill through there...

i think 1.9quarts or so, or as they "till the fluid pours out the fill hole"..

It's easy. Using a 3/8" ratchet, plug it into the tranny drain hole on the bottom of the tranny. Put a bucket or something under the hole to catch the old fluid. Undo the bolt and let it drain. While it's coming out, use a 17mm wrench to take off the filler bolt (it'll be located just between the transmission and the mounting point for the passenger-side lower arm, where it mounts to the body). Remove that bolt, and save the washer. Then get a long-neck filler tube and feed it into the hole. When the tranny's done draining, put the bottom bolt back in and start filling up the transmission. When fluid begins to weep from the upper hole, that's it you're done.

Honda MTF, Pennzoil/GM Synchromesh (especially if you have grinds or notchy shifting), or at last resort you can use 10w30 motor oil if you can't find anything else.

i noticed

thank you all for your help (i know this response is a tadd late i.e 38 hours )

we got it off in about 40 min and only wrecked 1 tool . despite our best efforts to use propor tools and not strip the bolt, the 6-point wouldn't even fit the bolt when it came time to put it back on

but now she has all her fuids and shifts a little smoother. we even put on her winter shoes (the fronts were slicks and the back was getting there)
