Check out http://www.dei.com or http://www.compustar.com both have alarms for undre $300, they are "brand name" and you can add a BBS, [back up batt. siren] to any alarm, even as a stand alone unit, if power is cut, it goes off. 94

AutoPage RS855 or similar. Good value for the money, great instructions. Good remote. Very inexpensive.

yeah thats a very good alarm, but most shops will charge you 150-250 to install that. and thats a little overkill for what he needs. you can get a base model viper installed w/a backup battery for around 300 at most shops

One thing I should have mentioned, whatever you end up getting, get it and have it installed at one of your local car audio/security retail outlets, you should have no problem getting a brand name alarm with a back up batt./siren installed for $300.
Online is not the place to get an alarm, unless it's an authorized dealer with a local retail outlet where you can have it installed, so warranty is not an issue.
Unlike the HU or amp that you get online, if you have a problem, you pull it and send it back and you live without sound for a week or so, you don't want to be without your alarm for a week or so, most, if not all, brand name alarms come with a lifetime guarantee if purchased at an authorized dealer and installed there, and most install shops will give you a lifetime warranty on the install, [if they don't, find another shop]. It is a huge advantage, if you have a problem with the alarm, if you can just go back to the shop you got and had it installed at and have them take care of the problem. 94
