i was just wondering if anyone had the mugen showa kit and if you do could you tell me how the ride/handling is? do you feel it improved? was the kit worth the money? i went to kingmotorsports and their little description of the kit sounded like it fit my needs *looking to improve handling w/o harsh ride, mostly daily driver but occasional autox'er*. TIA!
i dont know about the mugen kit but if its mugen its pretty expensive imo not worth it, you could just get aftermarket shocks plus springs to improve the handling for like around 500 bux total, i have tokico springs/shocks on my car and it improved the handling alot, the ride is only a little bit more rough than stock, but that depends on the shocks

if i went with the springs/shocks route i would go with H&R Sports/Koni Yellows....should i go that route instead you think?
the only problem with matching shocks and springs like that
is that u will never get proper dampning to match ur wheel rates
unless u do extensive shocks tunning
wich i recommend
ahah
that's the only strong point with the mugen suspension
shocks are perfectly matched to springs/wheel rates
other than that u can get more adjustability with coiovers + konis
if u have the mugen $$$
i would get TEIN or GC with custom rates + koni adjustable

The Mugen kit provides a slightly higher spring rate in the front and increases the back spring rate about 25%. This will help make the car set and rotate around turns better. The dampening, though not adjustable, is perfectly matched to the spring rates and offers a more "aggressive" ride character to the car without making it a kidney buster.
If you are planning on auto-x'ing once in a while, then the Mugen or Koni Sport/(insert spring here) set-ups are great. Overall, the Mugen will out perform the other set-up. If you are going to be taking the car to the track (roadcourse) then you will want to reconsider both of these options for something stiffer.
Hope that helped a little bit,
Brian.
mmm ..
not totally true
stock spring rates :
F 3.6 R3.1
mugen spring rates
F 3.8 R 3.4
though the mugen closes the ratio
it doesn't put 25% increase in rear stifness
the only real good feture about the mugen suspension as i said...is the perfect dampning matched for the car and the springs

yes the mugen setup is as confortable as the stock ride
the natural frequecy is almost the same as with the stock suspension
the only difference is that the dampning is alot more effective and stiffer
but stiffer shocks don't knock ur teeth out on a bump as super stiff springs do
eheh

I have the mugen-showa kit and love it. Before I had sprint springs that lowered the car even more, but the ride was worse. The Mugen is designed for comfort and for handling. Imagine going over railroad tracks in a lowered car and it feeling like the stock suspension. Well worth the $$$$$$
for street...the suspension needs to be as smooth as possible cause of lots of inperfections on all the streets
no one needs a super stiff suspension for street/solo2 use
cause it's always on rough surface
super stiff will only let off the grip
so the mugen does well with that
the point is to get as soft as possible..without having too much roll and beeing perfectly controlled ..
mugen as the control cause of the shock settings are perfect matched
then teh only step i would personally go after getting the mugen suspension is to get both sway bars replaced
with ST bars.. or something like that
get adustable endlinks though cause u'll have preload on the rear bar alot
that would relaly limitate the roll while still be rideable and accept road imperfections
that's pretty much a ultimate street/sport setting i think..keeping a smooth ride

i have the kit and the exhaust and i love it. i think that it is the best investment that you can make, plus it sure is nice when you say that that you have official mugen stuff on your prelude. the ride is confortable and the hieght is perfect for daily driving. hope you pick this suspension! its great
I think the Mugen suspension is a very nice setup for daily driving and occaisional AutoX. And one really great thing about the Mugen kit that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet is that it comes as a complete coilover assembly. It even has the mounting hat and a stiffer rubber bushing built on. This makes installation a snap because there is no need to disassemble the stock coilover to reuse parts. You just pull out the stock assembly and bolt the Mugen kit in its place.
However, for the money, I think there are better options. I have adjustable Koni Sports with Tanabe Super H springs. The Super H's are the mildest springs I could find (I don't think they are sold here anymore). It is about 30% stiffer than stock and lowers about 1". The ride is perfect for the street, and the adjustability of the dampers is ideal for AutoX or track. Plus I paid only about $550 total for this suspension setup brand new including shipping. - Compare that to $1300+ for the non-adjustable Mugen setup...

koo thanks for the additional info guys!!~ another quick question, since the kit only lowers about an 1"..most likely i will be able to do without a camber kit right? i thought the general rule of thumb was anything over 1.5" you should get a kit. i figure with a 1" drop the camber wont be so bad that it will have a great deal of an effect on my tires...is that logical to say?
Yeah you should be fine with no camber kit. My car usually sits about 1"-1.3" lower than stock, and my alignment specs are all within factory limits.

andrew is right, even with my 18's i am in no need of a camber kit. go for this suspension if you have the $. it will be a no hassle awesome upgrade!
