Is it illegal to swap a SRS steering wheel for a non SRS one?
I mean, obviously it can be done. What are the issues involved? If I were to get
in a wreck......would the insurance company screw me because I removed a safety
device?
What are some good SRS wheels that fit?

I have an aftermarket wheel on my car. To be honest, I take full responsbility if I were to get in an accident and I were to get hurt because my airbag wasn't there. I knew the risks before I installed my wheel.
However, I do know that if you sell the car with an aftermarket wheel and that person gets in an accident and gets hurt, they can sue you. If anyone ever does sell their car to someone with an aftermarket wheel, I would suggest having the buyer sign a waiver preventing the seller from any lawsuits that could occur.

Yeah, pretty much, if the insurance company is under the impression your SRS units are in operating condition, and you get in a wreck, they will not cover anything....that is, if it's your fault. But I'm sure if someone else hit you, their insurance would have to cover no matter what

I agree with the taking full resposibliy, that's how i view it.
If you sell it "as is" with no warrnty i don't think they can hold that against you.
Unless the person buying asks and you bold face lie to them. Wavier is a good idea then you have writtin proof that they knew. If i ever sell mine i'm throwing the OEM wheel in the back seat and tell them good luck. After i get the money that is.
Thanks SSCGuy I like to see i'm still holding it down for the retards.

Oh, ha ha ha, I totally forgot about that being there. Do you believe us when we tell you that doesn't work like that at least?

I hate how insurance companys can jerk you around like that. You're paying for their services. Lately, it seems like they'll do anything to get out of covering you, well, that's what I get from reading all the stories here on HT.

i know in cali, when you sell your car, the transfer of title is also a release of any liability.

Ok. So, you get in a wreck with an aftermarket wheel in your car, while your insurance is covering you with SRS. So, you get in a wreck, head hits the windshield, crack open your skull, and rack up thousands in hospital bills plus reconstructive surgey. BUT, if you had an airbag, all you would have got was a broken nose. Why should the insurance company pay all of that, when it was your dumbass who took out the airbag.

If you get in an accident with an aftermarket wheel and you originally had an srs wheel, whether you take responsibility for your injuries or not, most insurance companies will not pay out on the car period.

Also true. Most companies will straight drop you if they find out you've tampered with the SRS system at all.
