Well im a Noob when it comes to motorcycles but next spring im going to get a bike, i want to try something new and a bike seems fun. Now to my question, what gear should i get before i start riding? and what brands do you guys reccomend? its gonna start snowing soon here in utah so i have the winter to get all the gear im gonna need to start riding in the spring. so i though i would ask because i want to stay safe

Thanks for your time guys, sorry if this is a stupid question to some of you.

There's alot of good gears out there, but price does play a game in this. Dainese is probably one of the most flashy and pretty pricey if you ask me I love Dainese gear. There's also alpinestar which is also a really good gear that most will recommend. There is also icon and joe rocket, but I don't have either so I can't really give you advise on something I don't have, but icon and joe rocket will hold up. There is plenty of other brands out there, but I'm just going to name some. Other members will chime in on there experience with the gears.

what peices of equipment should he buy? i'm in the same position. of course a first timer isn't gonna spend a ton of money on a full body suit, just to find out he doesn't like riding (which i doubt will be the case). is a helmet, leather or textile jacket, regular jeans, gloves, and boots adequate?

It's better than what most wear and it's all I wear. A* jacket and gloves, Shoei Helmet, and some thick denim jeans or Icon jeans and 8 inch tims. Maybe not the best but I am neither Rossi or trying to be so it's more than plenty for me.

Any motorcycle gear is better than nothing. If you're looking to protect yourself from abrasion during a slide, the thicker and more layered up, the better. Also, stitching is very important. Just wear it all the time, everytime you ride.

But even the best leather won't do **** if you hit a brick wall at 45mph.

Icon jacket, gloves, Shoei X-11 (make sure any gloves you get have knuckel and palm support not motocross gloves) and jeans

I second the no motox gloves. My buddy low sided his 600RR last summer and DAMN Thor gloves do nothing when sliding across the pavement at 60+mph. Man his palms were seriously hideous.

+3

I rode my bike for the first week with moto gloves and I didn't like them at all. I would get a pair with reforced leather on the palms.

My alphinestar jacket is pretty good. I haven't been done in it yet so I can't saw how it will survive in a crash but the build and quality seemed to be there.

I also have a shark helmet which I love. Not too many people have them but I guess they are quite popular in Europe.

what kind of bike are you going to get? i wouldnt reccommend someone to start out riding on the street. you should get used to riding in fields and stuff on a little bike. start small if youre new to motorcycles because youll be dead in a week otherwise

Gear for a noobie? Gear for a noobie should be the same as anyone else. Regardless of experience, you're still out on the road and need protection.

Boots, pants, jacket, gloves, helmet.

Leather jacket, leather pants, leather/carbon reinforced gloves (full gauntlet is preferable), a good helmet, and at the very least, leather boots that tie up to the top and cover up above your ankles.

Personally I rock A* GP-Plus gloves, A* Twin leather pants (which someone a few posts down actually has for sale right now), A* TZ-1 jacket, Shoei TZ-R helmet, and some leather Lug boots that lace up just above my ankles.

If I were to redo anything, I'd get track pants and race boots. I went down and the boots I had were JUST enough to keep my ankles from getting rashed, but would have provided no protection against rolling/breaking my ankle/leg. Other than that, I went down at 40mph, my pants got torn up a little, my gloves got torn up, but I didnt have a SINGLE scratch or nick in my skin. Just some sore ribs and a hurt ego. That and a sprained wrist, which almost 2 months later is still kind of sore.

Gear.

For everything I spent probably close to $1,000 in gear to go ride a bike I paid $2500 for.

defiantly want to rock some good gear, I would say the most underrated thing is pants. At the least I would get some draggin jeans-they have Kevlar in the main rash points. I been ridding for some time, and recently was ridding with some friends in some nice twisties, I was not going to push hard so I just had on a leather/textile jackets, helmet gloves, boots and jeans. Well I came down a mountainside with some nice turns came into the last a decreasing radius turn only to find some gravel, went down hard and destroyed a 500 dollar aria helmet, nice rash on my jacket, and boots but the road/gravel went threw my jeans like nothing. So now I am laid up for a month plus because my knee was destroyed—everyone likens it to hamburger meat even the doctor. Had I been wearing even some draggin jeans I would have walked away fine.

If I had been wearing jeans when I went down most of the skin/meat on the front and outside of my right calf and shin probably would have been skinned off. Not to mention the damage it might have done to my knees.
