Default New here, couple of quick questions

Hey guys,

First off, hi my name is Adam. I've drooled over sportbikes for years. I'm 21, in my last year of college, and am thinking seriously about getting a bike for myself as a graduation present

I've read around the forums that insurance prices very greatly on a number of things, of course. One of which is location. I live in Michigan right now, but may be moving to Arizona or California a year after I graduate. Just by state name, would you be able to tell which state would have the highest insurance? Is is based on the length of the riding season or something?

I know protection is extremely important. If I'm out living in Arizona or California, how can you stand to wear all that equipment? I'm talking a typical helmet, gloves, jacket, pants, and boots (am i forgetting anything?). Don't you sweat to death? It seems that riding in anything over 70 degrees would be a killer with all that on.

I have tons more questions, but don't want to make too huge of a post so I'll ask them as time goes on. Thanks a lot guys,

Adam

first off welcome to the forum.

as far as insurance there are just so many variables that its best just to do individual insurance quotes, its not to hard with onlibe quotes it Will help you get a better idea as far as price. the most popular are state farm (usually the cheapest for most people) bike line, and progressive. there are many more but that's just a start.

as far as gear is concerned its good that you are already thinking of it and it should be the first motorcycle related purchase you should make. and keep in mind that the more gear you have on the better prepared you are in case something unfortunate might happen. As for the concern about sweating to death it shouldn't really be there. as long as you are moving its not bad and they make gear for warm weather which is perforated and keeps you comfortable as well as protected.

something that you didn't mention is the msf course which you should take before even getting a bike. its cheap and teaches many techniques that could save your life in the real world.

read the sticky on the top of the page and that should answer any other question you have.
