The EX models in most of the Civic generations will generally have more goodies. For example, sunroof, gauge cluster with a tach, sunroof, ABS, cd player, etc. Of course it sometimes varies, as some dealers order cars with additional options.
THe EX model is heavier, so if you're looking to be competetive with the car, you might look toward a lower model, with less weight.

The hx is basically an ex amenties wise without the moonroof or cruise control. I'm not sure if a/c is an option or not, but my hx had a/c. Also, hx's have smaller diameter front rotors, 9.5" opposed to 10.3?" ex ones.

Get the HX, unless you like the moonroof which will make your car heavier.

different motors too, right? doesn't the hx have that economy vtec for better gas mileage?

Also I think most if not all ex's have painted side moldings, but I've never seen an hx with anything other than black moldings.

yea the hx has the d16y5, and the automatics get the CVT tranny(which is a peice of **** btw)

Only the Ex's and Si's get painted side mouldings. hx's get black trim(mouldings, sidemirrors, license plate)
