How do you know if slave or master cylinder needs to be replaced?

Default How do you know if slave or master cylinder needs to be replaced?

So my GSR has a clutch issue and i thought it was the clutch, but a few of my friends have told me to do some things to make sure its teh clutch and they are saying tis not my clutch but possibly my slave or master cylinder. The GSR when started wont shift into gear, it is really hard to get it in gear. They told me to put the car in 2nd gear before starting the car and then try to drive it. I did that and the clutch grabbed fine with no slipping or anything, once i shift back to neutral then i can no longer get it into gear again. Is this signs of the slave or master cylinder failure? if so how do i check if they need to be replaced?

Does your clutch pedal sag? or feel loose. if so pump your clutch pedal alot then try shifting into first gear, if it goes fine, then it is probably your slave cylinder. i just had the same problem and had to replace mine.

put your car in first, start the car with pedal pushed in, if it tries to move and die out,m your clutch is gone

to check MCC go look at your clutch pedal, trace your finger up and see if there is any leaks

It could also be the clutch disc itself. If is hard to get in all of the gears then there is a bulletin on the problem where the torsion spring retainers break and allow the torsion springs to rub on the fly wheel, therefore not fully disengaging the clutch when you push in the pedal. Of course you have to pull the tranny, so be sure that there are no leaks or air pockets and both slave and master cylinders are working normally. This has been covered before. Do a search and you should find more answers to back me up.

I tottally agree with this person ^-----^ That's exactly what happened to my clutch. Replaced it and fixed the problem. Do you have a stock disc? My ClutchMasters Stage 3 is wayy beefier around the springs and the springs themselves.

If that was a second to that, this is a third. If no leaks to the hydro system, it could be your clutch.

I had the exact same problem a month ago. I kept insisting it was slave or master and my mechanic said no. He pulled the tranny and showed me a warped disc. The disk would catch part of the flywheel and would not fully disengage. Thus, hard to shift. About the warping, well, lets just say I went to Buttonwillow in the middle of summer with 108 degree heat. LOL. But it was fun. Oh well. $260 later problem solved.

Have you been autocrossing, HPDE, or dragging it?
