I don't know if this has already been covered, but if it has I apologize. I bought PPG Deltron DBU base (b90-p) and the PPG concept DCU 2042 clear with all the reducer (DT870), hardener (DCX61), and reactive reducer (DRR1170). My question is, after opening all of them and painting, how long does each product have until it is not longer useful? Will the base and the clear still be good to use, let's say after a year? Or will I only have to buy the reducer or the hardener or the reactive reducer? The reason why I'm asking is because the paint shop where I buy the paint said EVERYTHING is only good up to 30 days after it's been opened and someone else told me ONLY the hardener has to be replaced.

it can last for a year, just mix it up real well. only the hardner needs to be replaced. this is correct.

I use dupont chomabase =]

 

my paint has lasted pretty long. you need to have it stored in a dry cool place and the cans must be sealed. not sure about the hardener or reducer though, ill get back to you on that.

Aww.. crap. I already bought new base and clear, haha. Thanks for the info NrG. My friend likes dupont more than PPG.

i would be iffy with the 1170 ive had a prob with useing some old 1170 rr i had a prob with the paint wrinkleing up on me. I wet sanded the base coat after that cause i though i might have had oil or grease on the substraight and retryed to lay down the base and same prob then i thought expletive man. Then i reallized that the 1170rr was about a yr old and grabed a new gallon and redid the same door for the 3rd time with the new 1170rr and came out perfect so i would say that 1170rr goes bad after time. From my experience dt reducers are always good but that is if your using dbc not dbu. Sealer base and clear Have given me no probs with them sitting around though. I might be worried about the hardner for the 2042 though. Hopefully all that rambling mad any sense

 

H22turboeg6: Thanks for the info man! I think I might try to return the clear I bought from them, I know for sure the base I can't because it's already mixed. but I guess everything else I'll just keep since my others are about a year old.

i wouldnt be worried about the clear itself just the hardner i think thats why the 1170 reactive reducer goes bad is because it has its own hardner in it for the base coat but yeah if your local paint shop will return it you mine as well just get new
