I can't even stand 50 degree weather. if you have the gear that's all you need. just prepare to freeze your *** off. My fingers usually get cold first. Then my face sheid starts fogging everytime i stop at a light. The road is colder so be careful making tight turns because it doesn't grip as well in the summer. Watch out for ice on the road. Watch out for damn cagers too...

Your tires probably will never come up to temperature so be very careful and most importantly be smooth.
Watch out for sand and gravel after the first ice on the roads.

just like said before
just be careful with the tires ive gone out plenty of times and the traction is bad esp right away. just be careful and keep ur mind on that fact
also i would invest in long johns and a neck warmer. thats what i ride with in the winter. (ski equipment is good i found, neck warmers, clothes, etc)

My first instinct was to say no, but you know, that might not be a horrible idea if you could afford the cash. I'm not sure how long the tires will keep any kind of heat in them after you get out in the cold, though.

i used to wear a turtle fur that looked like this ...
It made a WORLD of a difference. It would keep any cool air from going down my back, kept my neck warm, and everything else. I would definatly look into buy one, or a smaller one for your neck.
I also wore long underwear, and even wool socks on the cold says. You're going to want a good pair of winter riding gloves. Hah i took my dads super expensive leather/cashmere gloves my mom got him from Nordstroms and wore those, they were SUPER warm. But i kinda messed em up

Yep, they work good......I use one too. Also, Gerbings heated gloves, good overpants of some type. I ride to work 37 miles, and the other morning it was 38 degrees when I left my house. With wind chill, that makes it about 10 degrees on the freeway.
Tires are hard to warm up when it gets cold no matter what type you are running, so ride more conservatively.....like when it's raining. Ive been on the road for 2+ years riding in all weather, over 10k miles with 0 incidents.

Thank you for posting this, I rode the other day to visit a friend, at night when it was 49 degrees out for an hour on the freeway. Then an hour back home. When I got home home it was 45. It was very much the gay.
I can stand the cold weather riding around in town running errands, when seat time is 10 minutes or less at a time. But, on the highway for long trips (as in hours), anything less than 50-55 degrees starts to kick my ***.
I had to ride from Billings to Casper (270 miles) last weekend, it was 50-55 and rainy. I was wearing a full Aerostich suit and electric vest and I was still pretty frozen and exhausted when I got back.

This is also very important to remember. I was riding home from work the other morning and nearly dumped it making a hard left turn (light was changing from yellow to red) through an intersection.

Try riding on the track today in 40 something degree weather and rain. Pocono this morning wasn't fun at all, tires were ice, I had to crack my visor 1 click so it wouldn't fog and there lakes for run off!
But it was fun as ****!

get good gloves for cold weather riding. nothing like having stiff fingers that won't respond well! also, watch out for black ice even after spring thaw. thing is, you probably can't even see them on the road. just be careful after a snow fall or rain.
I know this is an old *** thread, but I figured it was better than making a new one.
Where can you pick up grip wamers?
I just picked up my bike (thanks RGuy) and there is no way the bike is going to be sitting until spring time.
