Default 225 series tires with 18s: do they fit on a lowered 5th gen?

Okay so the "recommended" tire size with 18" wheels is 215/40/R18, but there aren't all that many options as far as tires go with that size. And the ones that exist are very expensive. Also, a wider tire has more grip, and that's always a plus.

If I go with a 225/40/R18, there are a lot more choices. Obviously, if that size won't fit, I won't do it. But if anybody else runs these size tires, or knows if they can, let me know.

Thanks

Actually 225/35 tires are great on 18's I run them with a +50mm offset, and I have no problems whatsoever.

Hmmm I didn't even think of that size tire working.

225/35 is better man. 225/40 is a bit too big. if you don't mind, 215/35 would work too, just a bit harsher.

225/35 would be a "better" tire for several reasons: lower sidewall, and it's a wider tire for more grip.

That would work fine then? I don't wanna mess up my cv joints or abs or anything like that.

it's not going to be a matter of messing something up, it's will you rub or not.

It's going to depend on a LOT of factors. Are you lowered? I'm assuming yes fromt he title, so how much? Rim offset? WHICH 225 tires? All 225's aren't ACTUALLY 225 on the money. Some are slightly smaller, some slightly larger.

I will tell you that a 215 would be a no brainer "yes it will work" but a 225 will put you on the edge of rubbing.

I run Kuhmo MX's and like them. 215/35's IIRC. I tried a 225 parada and it rubbed pretty badly.

I was going to get the Kumho MX.

Damn this is so confusing. I ran 215/35/18 on my 95 Prelude and never ever had a rubbing problem, and that thing was SLAMMED.

It's actually not lowered as of right now because I'm waiting on my camber kit. But probably 1.5 to 2 inches.
