is dust boot needed anymore?
It doesnt need to go on. However, It is nice to have them on there, it will keep particles off of the shock's piston rod and keep the piston seal cleaner ultimately giving the shock a longer life. The more expensive suspensions have dust boots on them.
Yes, I always reuse stock dustcovers when putting on new springs, and if you went with coilovers, PatrickGSR94 has a good write-up on making your own dustboots (accordion style) using some Autozone rack and pinion boots, some zipties, and some scissors. I used his method when I put on my Koni Sport sleeved coilovers, and they work very well.

Here in CA, I don't think you really need it. I've had coilovers on my civic for 2.5 years and don't have a problem with not running them. Being in TN, I'd say its better to run them.

cool thanks...but now another problem has arise. i misplaced 2 rings that go with the perch to the rear shocks. damn. will a local auto store carry them or can i run without them?
