Default konis pushed in...how to release?

i was trying to pust the dust boot onto the koni yellow without drilling them to fit, so i tried to shove it in and the shocks got pushed in. how would i go about releasing the shocks back out?

do i need to put that black dust boot back on? cuz on the koni install example doesnt have it.

tell me if this is right so far...shaft, ring, perch, dust cover, bumpstop, fat ring, dust boot, skinny ring, top hat, plate, nut, nut?

If they are gas shock, simply waiting a bit will let the gas push the rod back out. If you soften the adjustment, it will happen faster. If they are degassed, then soften the adjustment and then steadily pull on the rod and it will reextend.

If you are using a coil-over sleeve system then you will probably need to leave the dust cover off. Having it is not mandatory but it cahelp keep it cleaner and possibly let the rod seal last longer.

Look at the underside of the spring perch and see if it has a machined groove in the bottom side that fits and captures the circlip. The older ones all required a ring but they changed the design sometime recently to have the groove in the bottom of many perches themselves eliminating the need for a ring. If it does, no seperate ring is required. If no groove, then you need a ring with a groove and you will not find it anywhere but Koni. If you need rings, contact info@koni-na.com (I'm out until Monday).

As for the bump stops, do what the spring manufacturer suggests. They may have designed the spring and chosen the rate to be use with all, some or none of the bump rubber making contact and adding to the rate. You do need to have some bump rubber there but consult the spring company as to their design and installation decisions.
