Is removing oxidation worth it?
I have some oxidation on the roof of my 96 accord and was told by Carsmetics that they would charge $300 to strip the clear coat and reapply it (dont know how many coats, probably one, but not sure). Would this be worth it? I really dont have the money for a new paint job at the moment, so I'm hoping this would be worthwhile.

I have the same problem with mine, but it is more noticeable since I have a black car. All the 96-97's have that problem. Its a flaw in the paintwork.
And don't listen to this guy above me, that is not oxidation.. it is your clear coat coming up. The whole panel will have to be sanded, repainted, and recleared.
No detailing will replace clearcoat
lmao!

Agreed, GM had the same problem with cars that encountered enviroments which would wear down the clear coat. Surprisingly, this could include things like dripping water.
But as they researched the problem furthur they also noted another trend which was contributing. Excessive detailing.
What was happening was; as these cars were resold (program cars, lease turn-ins, trades etc) the paint would be buffed / wet sanded / polished to the point that the clear coat became too thin. Once that happens it looses it's protection against UV degradation and starts to loose adheasion. Thats' why it turns white and looks like it's bubbling and peeling.

Huh? I didn't say oxidation. I said the paint could be brought back to life.
High-end detailers can work on that kind of panel. I've seen beat paint jobs on classic volvos / austin healy's brought back w/o needing a paintjob.

yeah my car has that same problem (95 ex), but i have it on the hood and and roof, as well as beside the windshield. i have been told that it would have to be sanded, primed, painted, and cleared
Quick rule of thumb:
If the car has a clear coat (three part system), it will require refinishing. (sanded to the colorcoat and reapplied.)
If the car does not have a clear coat (surprisingly many do not) (two part system) it can be lightly sanded (1200 grit), buffed out and waxed.

I work with auto painting and stuff like that... and.... yes.... they need to put a quemical to strip the entire roof and then apply another product to make sure no oxidation happens underneath the new paint!
Thanks for all your replies. I guess I will go ahead and let them do what they got to do. My friend had them reclearcoat his quarter panel because the clearcoat was chipping (on a 2001 M3!) and they did an awesome job. He said they went ahead and reclearcoated his hood too for not too much more. Plus, he said they warrantee the work for as long as you own the car.
