They convinced me that I didn't need a valve adjustment till around 30K. Had them listen to my motor and they said it sounded fine and I would be wasting my money geting it done now. What gives? Do I get this done or not? They said if I did get it done the total job would cost me $150.00.
My dealership ALWAYS does them at 15K, their reason was that they see alot of them are loose.. but that could be just a scam.. Better safe than sorry
$150??? That's too expensive! I got my 15K service done too and they didn't do the valve adjustment. All I had to pay was $50 but that was because I knew the service writer. Even so, I don't think he would have hooked me up $100 worth, which is the difference between what I paid and what you paid.

The tech guy popped the hood, listened, and said I don't need. He told me to get adjusted when I hear tapping noises or come back at 45k miles.
They could have taken $115 from me but they're honest.

That sounds around right for Acura pricing. However, don't take it in for 15k service... they do jack. You can easily do oil, tranny, valve-adjustment at home. All the other stuff that they check take less than 20 minutes.

Vegeta: Are you in near stock form? If so, of the four times you adjusted them how far were they off?

Or lazy and extremely dumb.. Acura service reccomends it at 30K and if it wasnt done and you had a problem.... they might be able to say no warranty.. Just my opinion...

Why does everyone selectively choose what the service manual recommends? Do you change your oil at 7500 miles and filter once a year? Probably not even at the "extreme" 3750 miles.
10mm adjustment tool - 50 bucks
Feeler Guages - 10 bucks (even cheaper @ sears)
Worthwhile investment
The reason most dealerships do valve adjustments at 15k is simple..
-more labor for the techs
-more parts sold by the parts dept (vc gasket, etc.)
Sad but true.
It's not necessary til 30k, if not more, on a regular vehicle.
Granted, if you beat the **** out of your car, you should learn to do it yourself. Saves a LOT of money.
For the record, Naples Acura goes by the RECOMMENDED Honda service intervals. So at a 15k service, you will NOT be getting a valve adjustment.

I agree. Everybody with a B-series motor should learn how to do it. Your not moving any of the timing parts so it's pretty safe even for a clumbsy fool like myself.

If you WANT to do it yourself, by all means, do so; you can save money compared to paying someone else to do it. But if you DON'T want to do it yourself, then don't. And don't diss people because they have different needs and preferences from yours.
Some people enjoy working on their cars; some don't.
the people who dont shouldnt be in this hobbie then.

So tell me, Do you always diss anyone who's not exactly like you?

I would love to work on my car all the time...but I never learned, my father has no clue about cars and I didn't have gearhead friends growing up. I can change oil very inefficiently, wheels and brakes. That's about it. To make matters worse...I have no place to learn, and next to no tools. The people in the competition forum are good enough to help me out when I go to track days, or beforehand (4doorH22 is the man). If I knew how, I would certainly do it all the time, and enjoy it.
if someone wanted to learn how to ...were could he find the info?

The tools you can always acquire gradually over time, as you need them.
If you think you'd enjoy it, figure out a way to learn about it, and go for it!

Only "tools" that I got are 2 torque wrenches, 1 cheapo 50-piece tool kit from Eagle hardware and typical jack and jackstands. I definitely agree that some people don't have time, but IMHO to truely appreciate the machine that you drive, I think everyone should know at least the basics.
they wouldnt do mine either, but i made them , and they said the ex side was a little tiggt??
but any way it only cost me about $70
they trying to *** rape you bro,

So you're saying that anyone who enjoys driving the ITR and appreciates the differences between it and other cars - even someone who drives it on the track and knows all about its technical design - but who doesn't enjoy working on it, shouldn't have one.
So tell me, Do you always diss anyone who's not exactly like you?

I guess I misunderstood. I figured by "this hobby" (or hobbie) you meant driving the ITR and talking about it on h-t.com and deciding on mods and all the other things having to do with the ITR. If you're saying that people shouldn't be working on their own cars unless they enjoy doing it, then I can see that (although other people don't necessarily enjoy it but they do it to save money, and that's okay too).
