Default iPod to amp with no radio - any issues ?

I don’t have money for both an iPod and a new deck so I was thinking I would rather have an iPod because the radio is trash anyhow.

Now the plan is to hook the iPod directly to a decent four channel amp and then power a set of components in the front and mids in the back.

What do you all think? Will I be able to adjust the sound enough with an amp and crossovers or do I need a deck to achieve clear sound?

Yes it will work, but I agree with STEV3-0 <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by STEV3-O &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">wouldnt it be cheaper to just buy a deck with an AUx. input????</TD></TR></TABLE> It may not be cheaper, [although that depends on what amp and HU you are comparing] but if you get a HU it would give you a little more flexibility. 94

i have that, from radio shack too no less. i plugged it into the rear inputs, only got sound from the rear, so i bought splitters and connected them to the front outputs (this is how it was labeled in the back of my pioneer 6400)

now i get ipod quality sound, with no adjustments possible (volume, sound eq) from my hu.

i guess for the money its ok, but now i can never have the option of running a sub without taking out the ipod.

What hes' wondering is... did you really feed those splitters into the head unit's front *output*? Or did you connect them directly (or via an extention RCA) to the amp's FRONT INPUT?

Also, you do know you can pick up an adaptor that changes your pioneer's CD Changer port into an AUX input? This way you can control the volume from the head unit, eq, etc, etc. I've seen them in the past for as little as $12.

it should be an almost square plug in the back... most of the times it's blue in color. There's a bigger metal pin in the middle and tabs on two of the opposite sides.

EDIT&gt; oh, it's like 1/2"x1/2"

Ok, I have a question.

Is anyone here running an MP3 player through their headunit??

I have a JVC AR3000 headunit with all the ins and outs you can think of. If I get the RCA cable that runs from the headphone jack of the MP3 player and connect it to my RCA Aux inputs in the back of my HU will I be able to hear and adjust the music volume through the HU? or will the volume have to be adjusted from the MP3 player??

And yes, my HU has a CD changer input in the back(looks like a mouse input on a PC)

Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated

If your mp3 player does not have an AUX out, then you would use the headphone output, ether one will plug into the HUs AUX input, if you are using the an AUX output, [better SQ] all controls are on the HU, if you are using the headphone output, again all the controls on the HU will work, but also whatever control you have on the mp3 player, [volume etc.] will also have an effect on the output of the HU, you would have to find the volume setting on the mp3 player that works the best, [like an input gain] if you have an AUX output, it will be "fixed" when using the headphone output it is "variable" 94
