BB1, BB2, BB4.... wtf do I have?!
Ok, I know a 5th gen is a BB6
I THOUGHT for the longest time that my car, being a 4th gen, was a BB1, and that all preludes from 1992-1996 were BB1's.
but now someone referred to a 4th gen as a BB4.
Can someone explain the BB# to me?

BB1 is the VIN code for a 4th gen with 2.2l DOHC VTEC
BB2 is the VIN code for a 4th gen with 2.3l DOHC
BB8 is the VIN code for a 4th gen with 2.2l SOHC
BB4 I've never heard of... It could designate the US 4ws 2.3l model or it could be a version sold in a foreign market...
Just look at your VIN plate, and it tells you what model you have - It starts out JHMBBx....

I think the BB4 designation only exists in Japan. I drive a JDM 1996 Prelude VTEC 5-speed, which is right hand drive. In the engine bay, chasis designation is BB4 and engine designation is H22A only, no numbers following that. Hope this clears up some. I will try to digicam the chasis designation plate and post it here.
