Is it possible to run a hydro tranny in a EF?
hey, im in the market for a CRX project car and i would like to know if its at all possible to run a hydro tranny in theese cable cars without a conversion peice? to my understanding, all you would need is a clutch master cylinder, run hydraulic lines, cluctch pedal assembly and clutch master cylinder.
does this make any sence? or am i just stupid and missing something?

can anyone confirm or deny my claims? im willing to put in the hours, i just really want to run a hydro tranny, i hear nothing but bad about cables
if you want to do the job, fabricate whatever may need fabricating, write a how-to and you will be set! (I have not heard of this being attempted before, just converting a hydro tranny to cable system)
also, you would have to do lots and lots of custom work around the firewall where the clutch cable currently comes out... I don't know how much room a master cylinder would need, but it might go into the fenderwell...

i know you said you wanted to do it but just in case you didn't know this was available:
http://hasport.com/catalog/pro...id=32 *edit* just noticed you said without conversion piece so nm about that ^^^

if i get a confirmation of what pieces i'll need then yea man, i'll make a how-to, i doubt ill need to cut anything up, i was thinking of mounting the MC close to the passenger's shock tower, there seems to be some room there, ill also be converting the chassis to OBD1, which means, ripping apart the dash, pulling out the obd0 harness and replacing with an OBD1 Teg harness, and of course, all the dash functions will be integra to boot (cluster, CC etc) i plan on doing alot of cutting and fabbing on this car and i know filler plates will have to be made but i want it to be my real PROJECT car.

those are for B-series engines, i'd like to see a d-hydro tranny in there!
btw, never mentioned, b or d? (or h or f!
)

oh sorry, let me fill you in...i have an EG hatch thats going GSR-T in spring, im doing headwork to move the redline up to 10 000 rpm (with good cams of course) and then once i get the CRX ill buy a stock gsr, thow into my EG and toss the GSR-T into the crx....gona be fun! lol
but in theory it'll be easy to get a d-hydro in as long as i have installed all the hydro components

if you can get it to a d-hydro then a b-hydro should be easy. I believe they are identicle except maybe the flex lines (whoopty doo, easy).
I say if u can get a d-hydro in there a b should be cake

ya definately. the trick will be the initial install of the hydro components, but if you are ripping the front interior apart, that would make things 300 times easier to work with... good luck!
yeai just need someone to confirm or add to my parts list so i can start tracking down the nesessary...what ill prolly end up doing is buying a 94+ teg that was smashed from the rear and remove all the precious parts

Like what?
There is no point in spending all the time, money, and effort installing a hydraulic system just so you can say you have a hydraulically-actuated clutch.

sure there is.... its called a custom job... have you never seen what people do around here? some people manage to do crazy stuff... i say, if he wants to do it and thinks he can, all the power to him!
yea u dont understand...i want to conver the ENTIRE car to obd1...just to have fun, itll be my first non DD car man im 17, living at home, woking a job, no bills no worries, might as well do it now before im in college and broke

A few years ago people were saying it wasn't worth the effort to do an H22 swap. The ingenuity and wanting to do something different is why we have so many different options with our cars. Who knows, next year a hydro actuated tranny might be the next big thing.

the thing with hydro is that its not as much of a bitch getting from 2nd to 3rd gear without grinding, plus swaps are the most plentiful in the OBD1 range, so much easier like this, and plus, i wont be dependant of a HASport conversion. on top of that, ill have all the hydro tranny parts i need, since if you read higher i said ill prolly end up getting a junked Teg for the job.
I would also like to know if this is possible. I have an 88 crx dx automatic. I am hoping to drop in a d16y8 motor from my 98 civic ex. I'm reading get a crx si tranny is the easiest way. But wondering if using my y8 is even possible?
Yes, it's possible.
I don't know HOW to do it, as I never have. A friend of mine used to run a racing shop in Southern California and he told me he converted his EF hatchback to obd1 and a hydro clutch.
He then told me he wouldn't do it again if he had the option. He said it was a major pain in his ***.
So based on that, I can say it's possible, mainly b/c my friend did it.
I'm switching to a d-series obd1 engine soon and I'm just going to slap on a d-series cable tranny to avoid the trouble.
But I say that you should do whatever you want. It would be a totally cool project. If you don't get the answers you want here, there are other boards that can most likely give you the answers you want.

The problem with trying to convert to hydro with a D series is that the hydro d series don't use a "front" engine mount. They have the torque mounts underneath the frame rail.
You'd either have to run with 3 mounts (and have them fail if you don't fill them; then you'll have vibrations) or extensively fabricate something to fit underneath the frame rail area like the stock 92+ cars.
What I'd like to see is a B series hydro swap with OEM mounts. That way you'd have the best of both worlds - no vibration, and a transmission that isn't impossible to get parts for.

Mount a master cylinder under the dashboard. Look up posts by 2point2...he's got pretty good pics of his hydro conversion for his CRX.
Mount the tank on the firewall, run a custom hydro line down to your slave cylinder and your set.
It's actually VERY easy....and probably even cheaper than even using the Hasport 'hydro' conversion.
