Default F22A/B in 5th gen prelude?

Anyone done this swap and run turbo? If so just wondering how easy it is, if its a bolt in etc? I tried searching but didn't find much on the topic other than boosting F22's that are already in the 4th gen prelude.

I was just looking at this option as a cheap way to run boost reliably on a stock motor, instead of spending alot to build up the h22.

In Europe there is a F20A4 engine in 5gen. It's basicaly the same engine like F22, so you will not have major problems with swap. I don't know which OBD engine you plan to swap into prelude though.

Wow, I am glad to see that you thought it through and realized that the F22 is the better choice of engines to turbo.

Anyway, the F22 should drop right in. I don't see why dropping in an F22 and turboing it in a 5th Gen is any different from a 4th Gen. Also, you can get an OBDII F22 pretty easily too if you are worried about emissions.

thanks

does F22 come in only SOHC or DOHC? if DOHC, would it be better, or have they had more luck with SOHC turbo?

Would wiring be pretty straight forward? Any sensors missing on the F22 compared to the H22

I have a 94 obd1 F22a1 from my 4th gen s model for sale, it's a sohc 16valve. The F22a1 has NO knock sensor. That would be cool seeing a boosted one in a 5th gen. I think the stock compression ratio is 8.8.1.
I dont think the wiring would be that bad.

the f22 comes in dohc, most definitely....

there are all varieties of f22....sohc....sohc vtec....and dohc

the best choice i think would either be steve's bc its cheap, but dohc definitely has its advantages....get an f22b from japan, dohc out of a 4th gen prelude....

im glad your not just gonna ruin the h22 in there....

What about considering the Accord F23 SOHC motor? I was searching around to see how much they were for when I do a G23 hybrid. I could get one shipped to me for $350-$400. It's OBDII, too.

I think what you are doing is a good idea because you can always keep your H22 as a spare if you decided to turn it back to stock, or if you have issues with the turbo setup.

Yes, ruin. You take a motor that was SPECIFICALLY designed for high performance NA purposes, spend LOTS of money to change all that to run boost. That in my opinion is ruining a motor.

And how much did you end up spending on your build after all was said and done?

If I was going to build my Prelude for boost, I would buy a cheap economy motor like the F22 and F23, buy a turbo kit, tune it, and still make back much of the money back by selling off the H22. Not only that, if the motor blows, finding a replacement is VERY easy and VERY inexpensive.

You spent a lot of money to sleeve the block and to put low comp. pistons into the H22. The F22 and F23 already have that. Not the best decision IMO. lol

Andy's right. An OBD1 JDM DOHC F22B is about $450 and you can get some forged pistons for it and run an inexpensive H23A1 turbo kit or even cheaper DSM setup at about 14-18PSI. If you are looking for more power then look into some Crower H23A1 Turbo cams for the the JDM DOHC F22B setup (not SOHC) and you would have a reliable F-series Turbo setup for a few thousand less than a comparable H22 turbo setup and still make more power than your tires can keep on the ground.

You can check out http://www.accordinglydone.com as a bunch of SOHC Accord enthusiasts have some Turbo setups on their SOHC engines, Look up Schuckingham over there.

Oh and I picked up a low mileage '99 F23A1 shortblock for $50 this weekend... that is some cheap ****. Last I was looking the H22 block/crank/rods alone were over $500. But that is just my 2¢.

would the DOHC F22B JDM be better for boost, or would the SOHC be fine?

Reason being as in Canada it seems its hard to find a JDM f22B DOHC, but plenty of SOHC f22 here

The F22B DOHC motor is the better choice since in has the iron block bottomend and it is DOHC. If you can't get one, the F22/F23 isn't a bad choice either. But the F22B is the better choice.

you have no idea... i didnt spend very much at all. why spend money boosting an f22 when you dont even see very much gain out of it, i mean yeah its gunna generate more power but still. why buy a nice car, wear nice clothes and live in a shack? you know what i mean?

i guess you guys dont know the real story...

i cracked a sleeve with my nitrous set up, so instead of buying a new block, i just decided to build it instead. if i didnt crack the sleeve, most likely i would never end up building it and have the set up i have.

it really didnt cost as much as most of you guys think either, eyndyn is 30mins from my house and so are alot of precision, tial, etc. dealers that im close with. did most of it at home, besides the tuning+fab.

That's great and all, but how does this apply to him, or anyone else for that matter? I could say the same thing when people ask about swapping out H23's for H22's. After I parted out my H23 and I picked up a complete H22 swap from a guy locally, I actually made money. How does my situation apply to anyone else? It doesn't!! The only advice that I can give is to say that doing the H22 swap really isn't as expensive as you think if you are dedicated and part out their H23 too.

If you couldn't think about that on your own, you shouldn't be offering advice, seriously!!

Seriously, stay out of this thread. You aren't contributing in any way.

wow this is funny..

i was justifying my reasoning for doing it. you were saying it like i just have all the money in the world and did it for no reason. you dont know the story behind it so why did you just assume it?

we know john

were just saying that this guy would be better off if he sold the h22 and bought/used the f22b for his turbo setup

it would work out better the h, because it wouldnt be another ruined motor....and it will be cheaper also....

If you went F23a1 that would ease your wiring issues. obd2-obd2
Good luck with whatever you choose.
