so i had just gone to darry queen to get some ice cream btw it is like 2 mins from my house. so on my way home i was passing a factory witch lines both sides of the road, and bam blue lights. i was thinkin what did i do? so he gets out and says flat out my exhaust is illegal. I was like how it was put in by a local shop? he said i dont care it is illegal. so then he asks for the registration and licence, i go omg i dont have my licence i left it on the table at my house like 30 seconds away. so he wrote me a nice ticket for that. and a illegal exhaust. so pretty much i got shafted. any one in va know how i can fight this? btw i am 17 and am inschool.

 

If your exhaust has a CARB cert. bring that to court.

 

a friend of mine just unbolted his exhoust and stuck on a stock lookalike with some ducktape, took a photo of it to court and told the jugde thats what he had and he threw it out.

 

i got one when i had my WRX, i just paid the fine. No moving points on the ticket., didn't really care. Sometimes you just have to pick your battles and mine was not the one to pick to fight. Good luck

 

yea, virginia is gay. they don't care if it's 50 state legal or carb certified. they're rule book says basically that if it's not stock it's illegal. so pretty much if you take your car to midas to get a new stock replacement muffler it's illegal. and as far as i know, there is no db limit and they can just write you cause you are too loud.

 

thanks guys i dont think i can gurry rig a exhuast though my mom hates my exhaust and i think she is accualy glad i got a ticket. and it is just a muffler with 2.25 piping cat back i got it done at a tuffy and i still have the receip.

 

any ideas as to how to get out of it?? just go to court and do what? i am new at the whole ticket thing ahaah seeing as how this is my first.

you're lucky i got pulled one night and they gave me a ticket for my quiet *** apexi ws exhuast which is what i recomend u get cus it was just a bullshit ticket and ill tell you why

They gave me a repair order for my cracked windshield even though the crack is not in the drivers line of sight, my horn not working cus i have a detachable steering wheel, my corner marker was cracked but still worked. I had 30 days to get it fixed or my tags were suspended

So i had no choice but to pay the ticket cus the cop told me its illegal to have an exhaust wider than oem and i was like how do you know? Cus its not stock he said. I asked several cops and they all told me they never heard of that before. Luckily for the rest of my fixits i got a new windshield installed on my 95 hatch for 150 new corner lights and i had to go to an authorized inspection station so he could hear my exhaust

The guy said he couldnt believe i got a ticket for my exhuast cus its so quiet. i was like its BS

Anyways all is good and i have nevar been pulled ever nor will i ever cus im tellin u the world sport is worth 400 trust me. I got pulled for goin 84 ina 55 and the state trooper didnt say **** about it and actually dropped it to 64

doesnt matter.. wish it did! i live in TENN. and drive in virginia everyday.. ive had 4 exhaust tickets in the past year. 30 dollar fine and no points just pay ur ticket and dont bother with going to court( i sat in traffic court today for 4 hours) for exhaust ticket and the judge said i coulda just paid the 30 dollars instead of coming to court

BTW-- I used to live in VA, and I come up there sometimes to visit, can they still give you an illegal equipment ticket if you dont live in thier state? Im pretty sure they can, but I would have got a ticket for every part of my car if I got pulled, and I passed a lot of cops who just stared? Are illegal equipment tickets seconday laws (cant pull you over for it but can ticket you)?

50 state C.A.R.B. legal is just that, legal in all 50 states. It does matter but because of people like you who just pay the ticket, thats big (not to mention absolutely free) revenue.

Just like in Cali when we had all those red-light cameras. A guy petitioned to see the data logs of how and when they would do maintenance on the camera. They (the court) kept giving him the run-around because they thought the guy would just give up. Eventually the guy got his and about 200 other red-light tickets thrown out.

Basically, if you go in with the info about it being C.A.R.B. legal, the judge has no other way to rule but in your favor. If he doesnt then he's basically saying his district has more authority than the state. He will be overruled by your state's higher courts

One of you Va guys needs to just fight the ticket with the C.A.R.B. sticker. I'm sure that if you call the company that manufactured your exhaust, they'll help you with whatever info they can send on C.A.R.B. laws.

If a single one of you guys win, then just get on here and give your case # and the next man being pulled over for C.A.R.B. legal equipment can site it as evidence and before you know it, no more exhaust tickets b/c everyone fights them.

It just sounds like Va police are smart. They know you guys are lazy as hell and will just pay up.

My brother just got a ticket for 'modified exhaust' here in WI (obx twin-loop knockoff on ctr swap), but neighbors have been complaining. $80 and some change...

The law here states that no vehicle shall have an exhaust modified as to increase it's sound level. Only reason he got is was cause they were on the lookout - old hags can't hear ****, unless its a honda. Best to look it up on the VA DMV site. What's funny is that I ran my b18b hatch for 2 months with it broken after the cat (and almost draging ) - no probs with cops ever. Was a night/day diff when I put on the apexi ws pipes. Just the ws resonator alone was sexyness in a can[ister]...

if you can hear it you dont need to see it to know its there.
thats the biggest reason with motorcycles...
most people wont see them, but they will hear them coming.
