As i was driving to work in the morning, my radio turns off by itself and i wasnt able to turn it back on after that. When I continued driving, the tachometer went crazy jumping from 0 to 4000 and back down to 0 but my car is driving fine. As I got to work, I turned my car off and tried to restart my car to see if the radio would come back on and it did but now my car doesn't crank. I can hear it trying as it is cranking very slowly and then it stops. What could be the problem? My car has 200K but it runs fine as I have done almost everything I can to maintain it. If anybody has any ideas, please let me know or I will be srtanded at work.....in downtown LA. Thank you so much.

 

Battery/Alternator?

EDIT: See if it will start off of a jump.

 

I don't have any tools with me but I had narrowed it down to the alternator. I just wanted to see if the symptoms sounded right with the tachometer jumping and the radio dying......thanks for your reply.
