Hi people, its been a while since ive been here on HT but i need some help. I just got my accord back and running on the road, but i seem to be having an issue and I am thinking its the VSS but im not sure.

The car runs normally for some time, then it throws a CEL about ten to fifteen minutes into the drive. The speedometer doesnt work, but every other guage works accurately. I am not sure how to diagnose this problem firstly, and secondly, im thinking the vehicle speed sensor, but could this be anything else?

i believe that for ur year and model it is a bad gonko-meter

 

Post make and model.

Then you'll need to find out what CEL is being thrown. For my 91 Accord, it threw a 17 which was the VSS. If that's your problem it is an easy and cheap fix.

It could also be the gonko-meter

 

Either the 3/4 race Muffler Bearing or the Kinifler pin sounds about right.

But, all joking aside; it sounds like the VSS sensor or wiring / connector between the VSS and the ECM.

...and yes, if you'd supplied Model / Year I could have included an illustration of the offending unit, BUT.......

Ok... well now that we know the year and model... I can tell you a couple things to quickly check. The VSS also works with the cruise control and the transmission. Check to see if the cruise works... if it does, the vss has to be ok, if it doesn't.... the vss could be bad, but not for certain. Also you need to find out what code is setting when the CEL comes on... There are numerous threads about how to do this, so search and ye shall find. Then repost with your results.
