electrical problem, cant figure it out
i've been having some problems when i'm driving the car, the oil and alternator/battery light come on and i lose power to everything and have to coast to a place where it can sit overnight. i've replaced the alternator and battery. i dont know what to do. i've been told a voltage regulator could have something to do with it, but i've never heard of it. my dad had the same problem with hus mustang and van, both were from the 80s though. any help would be GREATLY appreciated. i miss driving the lude. i've been told a couple other causes might be the ignition, timing belt, main relay, or the advance timing or something. does anyone know any other possible causes? its been a week since i've been able to drive the lude without having to worry about it dieing. whats weird is after working on it some... i took it for a spin takin turns at 30-40 mph in a friends neighborhood around midnight. it held up just fine, not a single electrical surge or anything. then 30 seconds after pulling onto the main road, it died. also, turning the lights on, turning the wheel, or pushing on the brake makes it surge an the rpms drop to 500 or stall.
check the gorund wires and make sure all your motor mounts are in proper order. If not that then go to the main relay connections and look for breaks it could take a magnifying glass to see some of the broken connections
