Cooling fan starts up after turning off ignition and stays on
1994 Accord EX: I have found that the cooling fan starts running 1-2 hours after the car is shut off. It keeps on running and drains the battery. If I drive the car for a few minutes then it stops when I kill the ignition. I have swapped relays to see if it is a stuck relay but the fan does not stop. Is it a problem with thermostat or some other sensor? It does not do this on a regular basis. The temperate gauge shows normal readings. Greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks
Thanks
I had a '95 accord and had the same problem. Turned out I had a leak in the cooling system, the clips around the rubber hoses were so old that they leaked.
(later the radiator had to be replaced because it was so corroded that it cracked during a flush.)
You may want to run a pressure test to find any leaks. Good Luck!!

The thermostat doesn't control the fans. There's 2 fan switches, one at each radiator hose nozzle (at the head). The one at the upper radiator hose is the one that controls fan running after the car's turned off.

like JIm says it could be the switch at end of top rad hose ,,it could also be a radiator fan control module ..........unplug the switch and see if it stops working........do 1 thing first make sure u got planty of coolant in the system and properly bled

I swapped the fan relay with the power windows relay. Is there a way to check the radiator fan control module (is it the same as fan timer module?)
Thanks

Timer module = fan control module... (that's what I meant)
I don't know the details of testing it, my '98 doesn't have that system. Need a Helm manual for your year. It's not the same as another 'normal' relay in the car, so you can't just swap it.
Try to catch it when it's running, & unplug the fan switch in the upper radiator hose nozzle. I'm guessing that will stop the fan. If not, maybe it's something completely different...
