Default advantages of short ram over open k&n filter

I'm wondering if I should just buy a K&N filter or purchase a short ram intake for my DC4? Because is there really much of a difference in hp gain between the two? Does a short ram (thinking about purchasing AEM) piping get more velocity and air flow over the factory one?
I couldn't find that much out of the search engine, but any help would be great

short ram would probably be better. but dont get an aem. just get an ebay intake, cheapo, and then get yourself a k&n air filter for that. the piping is all the same, its the filter that makes the difference.

i though aem makes their intake polished so the volocity of air flow is better and better gains than the ebay cheapo. I would have to say get a cold air intake with bypass valve. You will see more gains and not worry about hydrolock. Do it right the first time so you don't spend more money learning your lesson and buying brand name next time. For now the k&n filter is fine, but later you would want to get cold air intake, if you are not planning to go turbo.

Yes but I mean seriously, it isn't going to make a huge difference in the polish .. It's not like the engine needs to be so prestigious. It is just sucking in air and it isn't at a super high speed.

I have a ram air with a cheapo filter, I'm prolly going to have to go with K&N and just keep it, There won't be a ton of difference, I'd suggest go with an icebox from comptech, it is just like stock but a better filter so you will get a tiny bit better throttle response.
