Yamaha's pigdog XS650

Honda's CX 650, weighed so much the turbo never made a difference.

Probably one of the best 80's efforts

All flash no go. Massively hyped in its day but in reality was a mechanical nightmare.
Back in the 80's the way to make bikes go fast was to fit a GSX motor into a Spondon frame and get Steve Burns to turbo it for you. Like this....

Take a read through it, shows all of the cool stuff from the old days, before mapping ECU's and power commanders and all that happy sh*t. Its so simple to make power now a 5yr old could do it.
Imagine riding a 170HP brick wall back in 1981

Mens bikes not these fairy cakes we have now

I had never heard of the Kawasaki H2. I did some quick google's etc. What is the "denso" part? Also wasnt the Z1 the first of the "super bikes"?

there have always been converted street bikes on the race tracks... the mid to lates seventies was when the term superbike was coined I believe(not sure). Do to the rise of the high HP single and dual overhead bikes that started to come out of japan out of necessity as the 2-strokes became legislated out of existence for all but the race track. The idea of race on Sunday and sell on Monday is quite real and as the makers need to build sales numbers, the modern race series were born. I do know that wide world of sports coined the phase "Superbikers" as a series that is the precursor to the modern supermotard. it was a series set up for there television show in Carlsbad California that invited champions for all discliplines to compete for a single crown. not like the way modern invitation races are conducted, there guys were out for blood, and the manufacturers they represented wanted a "WIN AT ALL COSTS" attitude. this is really where the anti Honda sentiment was born. Honda ALWAYS had the biggest budget and the best equipment, but Yamaha kept beating them with riders like Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey and specially Eddie Lawson(in the superbikers).
the first streetbike i ever rode was my fathers 76 KZ400 that he bought new in april of 77. i remember the day he brought it home.
the bike is still unrestored but starting to show its age. the clock is showing almost 11k miles now. my father still rides this bike occaisonaly in the summer.
it's not quite the superbikes that you have listed above but it is definitely one of Kawi's memorable pieces.
for the classics!
EDIT: oh did i forget to mention, my pops bike even has MAC pipes, lol
