Default For Those Who Drag Race(@ the track), I have a question about tires.

I am running 17" Rims . I know I need some light weight 15" or 16", we all have our priorities. But I'm heading to the Drag Strip to test out my Toda B's, against my brothers monster 350 V8 powerplanted into an old 240 Dautson. And I don't think I'll be able to get a hold of some slicks or anything, BUT I have some stock wheels off a 93 Civic DX. Do you think these will be wide enough to pull me? Can you think to any other downside in using these>?

put some 555r's on them and they should be better than the 17's...

what size are they? i'm not familiar with the civic wheel sizes.

13" X 5"...Tiny...Light...I'm thinking these maybe too thin to get good traction, but I'm a street guy, so I'm not too familiar with the strip. Oh these already have tires...something cheap no doubt...but I have these lying around from my first car.

The smaller rims/tires should work well for the drag strip, lower the pressure to 25 psi to start with, let a little out at a time to the wheel that slips more, dont go too low on tire pressure(Ive heard of 16-17 psi, but I wouldnt do below 21) the wheels can come off the rim. Are you going up to the Darlington dragway, or an eighth mile a little closer to home. I think Im going up to darlington next sunday, It will be my first time at the full 1/4 but I have run the 1/8 at Savannah many times. Good luck

We're going to a local 1/8th in Greer, SC. Thurs, is Import night...and technically since my bro's 240 is a Nissan, even though it has the Chev. Camaro or Corvette 350, its considered an import... But you think these tiny *** rims will grip?

with the right tires, they will grip... 555r's...

but... will a 13" wheel clear your brakes?

Well, I'm not going ot spend money on tires, when I'm only going to use them for one night...and as far as the clearing the brakes...I've got no Idea...I'll have to check them out when I get home, I'm at college right now.

Just stick with your 17's then... the 13's probably have shitty tires anyway... compared to your 17s

1/8 mile isn't the greatest place to find out whats faster... torque moster v8 vs rev-happy 4 banger. Make sure both of you go to a 1/4 too.

the smaller rims/tires will probably also have a smaller outer diameter which equals better gearing.

i don't think those 13" wheels will clear your front brakes.. i remember trying it years ago and they only fit on the rears

civic 13s will NOT fit gsr front brakes, you might want to swap in some DX rotors infront, either that or get some spacers for your wheels, just two alternatives for ya, smaller wheels = quicker times
