Default Hesitation with 99, 4 cyl, auto, warm or cold - help

The car starts well, but when you put it in gear and give it some gas, it hesitates or stalls. If you let it idle for a few minutes first, the hesitation is less. The problem occurs whether the engine is hot, cold or warm. The problem seems worse on hot days. A comprehensive tune-up didn't fix it. The hesitation seems to be a fuel starvation problem. ... Any tips anyone?
