Default dumb question but important

ok, so i have a 1996 civic ex with a jdm gsr motor with a b16a trans, with short ram, catback, header, skunk2 intake mani, nothing serious. But my question is I am wondering whether or not to get it dyno tuned, I have heard rumors that it is pointless to tune your car unless you are completely done modding it. I am no where near done modding it so I am hesitant. Is it true that it would be pointless? Or are the rumors incoorect and I can get it tuned now and not lose power when adding more parts, or should i just wait until after I'm done. thanks for the help in advance

tuning will only optimize your setup, but as the setup changes, you'd have to retune it to optimize it.

but no one is ever done with their crap, so just get to a point where you've got most of your major mods (now) and tune it, then if you get something all crazy like an electronic supercharger or tornado intake device, then just tune the **** again!

you may want to look into tuning the car yourself, but the butt dyno is never accurite.

tune that sheeeit and **** the kids who said not to

What do you propose tuning it with? You'll need some sort of fuel/ignition managment system to do any real tuning. Tuning is never pointless IMO. Just allows you to extract the full potential your car has. But you would have to tune it again after doing any major mods to extract the potential out of those.

thanks for the help, see that's what i thought i could tune it now and then just re tune it once i got my turbo installed which wont be for a while cause of money issues, but what would you recomend tuning it with? i heard hondata is the **** but i dont think i'll be tuning it myself cause i'm not experienced so i wouldn't need an s200 i could just get the s100 but what do you guys recomend?

Hondata is the **** but there are also other good options such as Uberdata or Chrome. These other alternatives give the same basic functionality at a lower cost. You will get mixed opinions when comparing the "free" systems such as Uber and Chrome to other systems like Hondata. But either way your golden. Just stay away from piggy-back style controllers such as the VAFC..

Side note regarding the topic title. The only dumb question is the one not asked. Otherwise its all just attempting to gain more knowledge, nothing wrong with that..

From there its really just simple tweaks based on a few thing such as, but not limited to:

Dyno results, wideband O2 results and your purpose.

I'm still a noob myself when it comes to the funky **** since programmable fuel injection is not like simple addition. But http://www.pgmfi.org is the place to really look into the whole scheme of modifying ECUs. If your dyno time is based on an hourly rate have someone who knows the system tune it so you can get in more pulls and more fine tuning. If you pay by number of pulls and you feel confident in yourself I say go for it. Just really study up before you start tweaking **** and you'll be good.
