if it's your first time riding a bike, you're mostly going to hear something small, like a ninja 250, or 500 or something of that sorts.
The reasoning for this being:
-You need time to get comfortable with the controls and handling and being "aware" on a motorcycle, a 600+cc sportbike is not the best bike for this. The power could get away from you or you could go unnecessarily fast and hurt yourself.
-If you go out and buy an expensive bike, it will be expensive to fix when you lay it down (and seriously, you will). There's a few people that'll say they've never layed a bike down or dropped it, but the reality is that almost everybody drops their bike at sometime, and new plastics are expensive.
Now, if you must have a newer 600cc sportbike don't just "think about" which bike you want. No matter what bike you end up getting, you need to go sit on it before you consider buying it, because (especially with your height) you need to make sure you can actually stand the bike up and hopefully flatfoot it.

i will take ur advice and get a cheap bike first. but do u thnk the r6 or any other 600cc bike are good for me, i mean the ride height fitment..
First read the FAQ located at the top of this forum, its stickied.
Then read RebornGSR's post here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1170916
And no your not too short. Im 5'5 130 pounds and can fit perfectly on any bike.
I suggest a Kawasaki Ninja 250R as a first bike.
Take the MSF course and make sure you get proper gear.
Good luck.

If your going to get a 600 get like a 99 zx6r. If you look around you can find them fairly cheap. As for the height, I am the same height as you and I rode a zx6r and now I ride an r1 with no problems. I cant flat foot but I can tip toe pretty well
It only sucks when your new to riding and your on a hill and cant flat foot

The 250 hasn't changed in years (at least since 89?), so any one will do fine.
They're $3000 new. A good used 250 will be $1500-$2500.

I'm 5'8" 150, and I've been able to put both feet down and flatfoot them on pretty much every bike I've sat on. Before buying a bike, I went to a Yamaha and Honda dealership to see how I would measure up to a motorcycle in general, I flat-footed pretty much all the 05 Hondas and Yamahas, and then ended up buying a 95 Yamaha FZR600 that had been crashed twice and rebuilt/repainted. I've crashed it once, and learned a ******* ton by riding it. I might kick it around another year, but I know a guy at work who has a 2000 R6 collecting dust in his garage that he might sell me on the cheap.

Screw the 250, you will sell it after a month and feel stupid.
Get an older, slower 600 that you won't feel like a wuss riding. Not that I think a 250 is a wussy bike, but if you have any friends that ride, you'll start getting envious really quickly.
As far as the fit goes - when I first started sitting on bikes, 600 sportbikes made me really uncomfortable. I thought they were too big and not being able to flat-foot really concerned me. But after I had been riding for a few months, those fears passed and I was able to 'step up' to a 'real' sportbike.
I'm about your height and weight, BTW.

I prefer riding my 250 on the streets over my R6.
Riding 10-20 over the speed limit on the R6 is a snooze but the 250 tries its best to kill you at those speeds. I love it.

an older Yamaha FZR600 or Honda CBR600 can be found for $2000-2500 if you shop smart. both are good starter bikes.
plenty of speed and power, yet not as fast as a modern 600. Not the end of the world if you lay it down, parts can be found for cheap.

I agree getting a 600 , 250 looks like a scooter and youll want to go faster, the 600 is easy to learn on as well , my wife who is 5'3" rides a 05 600RR as her first bike she is almost flat footed but i had to get dogbones to lower the bike she loves it
05 600RR as her first bike! Is she babying it or riding it like she stole it? I know someone who went from a 250 to a Yamaha 600 and he was blown away when he opened it up on a straight. I cant imagine jumping on a 600 SS and not being intimidated.
