wassup everyone I have pix up from the JDM navigation install setup i did in a civic today. check it out. Im an installer in San Jose and talked to this guy that has been denied fom many other installers and shops saying they didnt want to do it. Note: I did this install without any wire diagrams from the unit and still had it functional and a satisfied customer.
heres the pix:
this was the unit all in a gang of wires all chopped up and yanked,

this was after i prepped the wires behind the dash so the install would be cleaner

this is the JDM NAVIGATION piece for civics

this is the bottom portion of the unit tape deck portion and junction box

this is the unit turned on

and this is the finished install working

if anyone needs any remote starts, alarms, or any other installations needed for their car PM me or reply to this Im an MECP certified installer security specialist. Thanks for the business JDMEK-9!!

that looks pimp. btw do all the a/c and heater controls still work? i'm assuming this car was a 99-00 civic as from the looks of the controls, they aren't cable operated like the 96-98 civic

well as far as the climate controls your correct they arent hooked up (YET). the reason being is i asked the guy if he wanted me to hook it up but he didnt have enough money for me to complete the wiring on it. The Unit was from a 96 Civic and he had a 00'. Im just waiting on him so I can complete the wiring for him. other than that everything is clean to go!

another thing, what you guys didnt see was how the wiring looked like in detail when he first brought me the unit. there were two pins in oone harness cracked out so i had to pull out the pins recrimp them for a sure connection then repush them in delicately into the harness and make sure they held. Also the person before him that owned it taped wires and left them exposed so i had to reallyyyy clean up the entire wire management. Luckily I have good certified installer skills and everything worked perfectly.

i thought the the jdm navi had jdm maps and not usa maps in there system??? How did you get the jdm navi to work for usa maps...did you get the software to convert the jdm maps to usdm maps?? It turns on but does it actually function?

as far as that portion goes, he said he was going to take care of it from there. He was just glad I got that thing installed and wired for him. Hes mainly going to use it for a screen in his car hes going to add a dvd player to it. I was only paid to get it on and installed plus cleaned up. He was telling me noone around his area wanted to touch that thing or even take a look at it for him, so i figured man why the hell not.

i never even knew these existed sadly enough, I was just acting as the installer who was trying to help out a customer that couldnt get help form bastards that were probably more qualified than me (owning thier own shops and all) yet i took the install because i was determined to help out a fellow Honda-Tech 'n. I got paid, he left happy, what more can i say

Some of us technicians call this "special skill" being knowledgeable. I am willing to bet that almost any tech or someone with the aptitude for wiring is capabel of figuring out how to wire the unit up. I find that most people that have the knowledge to do this are just too freaking lazy to do so. I commend you for digging into the unkown but don't go off and think that you are something special for figuring out a wiring diagram.
Here is one thing that I know that most people here on H-T don't know......Honda designs almost everything on their cars to be directly interchangable with anything that they have designed for that model. They do this for engineering and production costs. This rule also applies to the interior wiring harnesses......allbeit they are a LITTLE different but for the most part they are fundamentally the same.

haha, i never thought it was something special, just something that surprised the hell out of me when i got the business. It just boggles me that shops being so knowledgeable and having as many of the resources as they have, would not take this install. Its just something to throw in these shops faces to show them how stupid they look because they themselves turned it down because they doubted it themselves. Thats all. And yea your right, it is being knowledgeable, im just glad i helped the guy out
finally a USEFUL jdm part! How do you get it to work on US roads though? Do you program it, or do sattelites make it magically work?

i guess us usdm 96-98's need to change to 99-00 consoles so we can have that jdm tizzyte navi system. damn!
now about those dvds....how and where could you get these?
(i like to know as much as possible before doing these kinds of things)
