Default ROD BEARING QUESTION.....

ok..i know your suppose to plasiguage etc. when puttin on rod bearings.... but a master tech at my workplace (toyota) told me for the rod bearings (buy the same size as old ones) and the main bearings (buy one size up from old ones... like if they were a #3, then buy #4)... he said this because the rod bearings dont usually wear very much, the main bearings are what wear... he said this is a rule of thumb and never goes wrong... any one agree?

Honda's usually don't wear much on the main journals so you'll almost always end up using the same size bearings everywhere (assuming that bearings weren't the reason for the rebuild). Using plastigauge is always a good idea, it's a small step that can make a world of difference when it comes down to the longevity of the motor.

Just use ACL's. They are the same as the green bearing and Ive used them in a B16a and a b18c5 and they cleared .0015" both rod and mains. They are awsome!

Are you reusing the original crank or are you replacing it? At this point you will need to plastigauge in order to make sure all of the tolerances are good. No harm in being safe.
