Default Anybody cornerweighted their 5th gen?

It's a long shot since there're lots of better ways to spend cash (hence my asking ), but has anyone cornerweighted their 5th gen? Or if not, anyone know the weight distribution F/R? I'm trying to calculate wheel rates and spring natural frequencies and need to know sprung weight on the wheels. Thanks for any help.

I once was a judge in a science fair and a cute middle school girl had an interesting project. She accurately estimated her dad's truck's weight by air pressure in the tires and the deflection of the rubber. I should have asked for a copy of her report and methods.....

Here's a thread from another board with actual corner weight data for a 1998 Prelude TypeSH and a 1998 Prelude Base

Thanks for that thread, aklucsarits. I'm looking for stock weights before they've been adjusted, but that does give me some other ideas (ah, the never ending pursuit of suspension modification)

heeh..neverending yeah

can we know what you are planning ?
could help others maybe

i had the stock weight somewhere from when i conerweighted the base lude of a friend..
i'll try and find it out today

ah stupid me..
the weight we have are with the coilovers set with height before we adjusted it..
so it's not the stock weightings from the stock suspension

but u can play around with the numbers cause it'll be the same totals neway

I am planning on figuring out what the best spring rates are for the 5th gen for when I pick springs. You've got the Fred Puhn (How to Make You Car Handle) book right? On pg. 138 I think is where he talks about natural frequencies and all. So far I've calculated the stock spring stiffness and wheel rates/suspension vertical stiffness. I need the corner weights to calculate what the natural frequencies are, then I'll be able to use Puhn's chart to figure out what spring rate gives what natural freq.
Do you have numbers for your friend's car before you adjusted the coilover sleeves, or after? If it's before, then that should work. How did you cornerweight it?

we used electronic balanced.and diagonal method..
that was just to set his car on a good level while helping out the weight distrib

yes i have that book ( my favorite so far )
i calculated the natural frquecie once..approximatly
and it was something like .8 in front
and 1.2 in the back
though.that was when i had erroneous stock spring rate

i hope u do know the stock spring rates for prelude

F: 3.6kg/mm
R is 3.1kg/mm

that's make roughly F : 200lbs/inch R: 170lbs/inch

please unless u want to alter car balance try to stick with this ratio as close as possible

just for additional info
mugen lowdown suspension rates : F 3.8 R 3.4
so ratio is a little different
i'd stick with the mugen ratio..and play with sway bar adjustments for correct track balance

could you post here all the number u have so far ?
that would be cool to have accurate numbers

thanks

All the numbers I have so far? Ok, here's the spring rate info first:
Here's the equation I used: W^4G divided by 8ND^3.
W is the diameter of the spring wire,
G is 12,000,000, a constant for steel,
N is the #of active coils+1/2
D is the diameter of the coil, measured to the center of the wire.
My measurements were: W=7/16" Front and rear
N=8 1/2 front, 7 1/2 rear
D=3 5/16" front and 3 3/8 rear
Final answer for stock spring rates were a little surprising:
178 lb/ft Front
190 lb/ft Rear
I was surprised at how low these #'s were (reinforcing my belief that stock sway bars are pretty stiff - the front one anyway) and I was surprised the rear was stiffer. I guess they tried dialing out some understeer.

Wheel rates are 39.12 Front and 26.71 Rear. These are the amount of force necessary to move the wheel up one inch.

cool cool

doe
ahah

i didn't get an answer from my friend who has the number for the weight yet..should get it by tomorrow i guess

total weight was under 2900lbs without driver if i recall correctly
didn't have any mods except the coilovers back then

cool neway..you are doing same thing as i did

by the way..
how did u get to you rear/front spring rates

cause u know..i had a friend in japan called MUGEN to know their spring rates and the stock spring rates

the first information i had was that front was 3.1 and rear was 3.4 kg/mm
wich is mmm F: 190lbs/inch and R: 170lbs/inch

i then assumed that for almost a year
until my friend called mugen

and we had different numbers
that is why i thought that all the aftermarket companies were doing ****
cuase they all were doing reversed ratio..front stiffer than rear
when i though it was contrary

neway
so check out ur spring rates..i do not think that they are good
at least for the rear

or then again..mugen is all fucked up
and the otehr place is right..
ahah

Thanks for the #'s, but I need pre-balanced weights. Looks like I'll just have to spring for getting the car weighed. I'll post up when I have it all done

ok

but you could just do it with thoose

the weights didn't change more than 5% overall
from when we started to move them..
though the car was never weighted stock..it started with coilovers ( skunk)
at same height setting on each wheels

neway i guess that beeing there u can do it preoperly and get perfect results

when u will have the results please let me know with a small msg or something as i don't always read the posts in here ok

see ya
