Weak VTEC, why?
I recently installed a JDM b16a2 (non-LSD) (from password) into my 92 cx hatch. However it previously had a OBD-2 USDM b16a2 from a '99 SI with a P28 don't ask me how he did it, but apparently the guy i bought it from was a car thief, so that motor had to go. The newly ordered B came with a chopped harness, a throttle body without a map sensor, a broken/melted TPS, and a p30.
I've finally got a functional TPS, had the throttle body replaced w/ map. Advanced the timing and set Idle to stock. It runs smooth at idle, and up to 5900. Vtec hits, loud and clear, but there's no power. Well theres power, but it feels as though it loses power from 5900 to 8200, equivalent if not less than from 5000-5800. With the old motor it felt quicker, the time elapsed from Vtec engagement to redline seemed much shorter, and it was almost hard to smoothly shift quick enough from 1st to 2nd. I've checked all gaskets, oil is fine, cleaned the Vtec solenoid, injectors, and IACV. I don't understand, is this some secret of breaking in a new motor(40-50k km)...j/k. Although it's not even worth pushing, will this damage the motor to run Vtec in this condition?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
p.s. what the hell is wrong with my car?

Pps: I used a timing light, and it's right on the mark. I looked for the cel reader plug under the dash on the passenger side, and couldn't find it or any existing wires that would correlate to the 2 mentioned in the ECU thread. Which leads me to believe the interior harness has been switched with who knows what. BTW, the car has an entire ITR dash swap (salvaged; the initial clue to our friends the police), compliments of the thief. Also is there such a thing as honda OBD1 code reader, i've heard both ends, "there is, there isn't; you have to do it manually... "
if you're not throwing a CEL then i dont think there is a point to scanning for codes. also i have noticed in my build that at 16 degrees the motor feels solid and smooth but weak. if i advance the timing past 18 it feels very much more responsive to the throttle. try advancing your timing and go for a drive and see if that makes a difference.

from what the message states there is nothing wrong with the car...you probably have a really smooth curve and no vtec dip...that's a good thing not a bad one...your old setup probably had been treated like **** so it felt kinda the same until vtec kicked in and you felt it more probably cause you had a huge *** dip in power before vtec ebgaged and brought u back in to the powerband going up.

Thanks for trying, but that's not it. Although the guy was a thief, he was a damn good mechanic. I know for a fact it's not running like it should:

In third gear it literally takes 3-4 seconds from 5900-Redline.
Aren't the JDM version of this motor supposed to have 10 more hp @crank. Did Password rip me off?
