Pilot bearing found in flywheel!
OK i bought this racecar 1989 civic CX base base base.
Car is DPFI. i have Si motor and transmission. gonna do the MPFI conversion.
Pulled out the orignal motor and trans assuming it had never been out 65,232kms original. Probably mostly race miles. car had a lot of good stuff and a lot of really really dumb stuff done to it mostly cosmetic.
Anyway so split the motor and tranny and wow! a lightened flywheel. well thats cool now i don't have to buy one. so i pull the clutch hoping for some identification nope no numbers name nothin clutch looks pretty new though so does the pressure plate. bonus welp better undo that flywheel and put it on the shelf HEY what the the **** OVER. Theres a pilot bearing in the centre of this flywheel.
Ok so now i'm thinking maybe it supposed to be there. NO dumbass no FWD you've ever had apart has a flywheel including all your hondas. OK maybe it has something to do with the aftermarket flywheel NO that doesn't make any sense.
OK any ideas my number one question is do i put it back in when i reuse and reassemble.

If I'm understanding your post correctly, you have never seen a pilot bearing on a FWD flywheel? Honda's do have a pilot bearing on the flywheel.
This is normal for a D series tranny the other D series motors i have do not have pilot bearings in them.
Now i'm a toyota tech all our FWDS don't and all the honda clutches i've ever done didn't is this something just 2 this model of car?

all honda's have a pilot bearing even the factory ones. you really dont need a race car you need to research and learn some more about honda's before you start working on them
OK hold up there a minute bud ok did the reasearch not all honda's have a pilot bearing. I've not had this tranny apart yet but i;ve had a lot of other honda's apart that don't have a pilot bearing. so not all hondas have a pilot bearing!
Trust me i checked the parts lists for multiple models.
My Bad. Guess My SI was missing it.
Bashing on people really is waste of typing don't ya think

Just from my experiences, all the H, B, and D series flywheels I've ever worked on or seen all had pilot bearings. A lot of clutch/flywheel kits come with replacement bearings.

All D series flywheels from 88-95, I know 100% sure have pilot bearings. Since the d-series from 96-00 were pretty much like the D-series from 88-95, I am going to say those had them as well. So all the D-series flywheels from 88-00 have pilot bearings. Not sure about the d17s from 01+... nor do I care.
Sure go to any auto parts store.... just as for it by name and they should be able to order one for you... i should know im a store manager for Advance Auto Parts here in the north!... it may take a few days but you can get them.... if it is really somthing odd (you did not say which honda you are working on!) then you may have to get it at the dealer... or if you have a old bearing then take it to the parts store and let them match the #'s on it!!!
Well i work at Pep Boys and Corporate is more interested in selling scooters and kayaks than they are auto parts.
I don't even have a listing in my cataloge even as a special order.
Do you know around how much they cost?
BTW, both are EF D series flywheels.

Not all cars have them on the FLywheel..many have them on the crankshaft.
But Honda is one that DOES have it on the flywheel.
