Hp gain from AC removal??
I rock a 90 civic si, stock. Got a z6 head coming, itb, ecu and the like to run up a mini me swap. When I do the swap I plan to remove the ac unit and all of its parts. Does anyone have a rough idea of how much of a horse power gain if any I will get from removing the AC?

I agree, so by the general consensus on quarter mile times and weight, that's like .05 seconds, I think.

you may gain .5 hp all you are you doing is making less rotating mass. but like everyone else is you loss weight and you think your faster than what you where before you removed the ac. ive dyno'd a few cars and removed the ac belt and only shown gains as high as .6 just to prove to the car owners that it doesn't make any real gains worth taking off a complete ac system if its still in good working cond.

Taking out the a/c kills resale value; and we already have crappy enough resale on our modded cars!
Don't make it that much harder to sell somewhere down the line. It's not worth .5 hp.

yes. mine was not working and i took it out and sold it. there really isnt any noticeable difference except the copious amounts of engine bay real-estate youll have without all that crap everywhere.

if you are not going to ever sell it, and it does not work anyway then, i say strip the hell out of it!... i took all the extra crap out of my crx to drag it and do a little road racing at Gingerman raceway, and draging it at Martin dragway here in michigan... that crap weighs quite a bit.... but i also took out my heater, and all that other garbage out from under the dash.... got my baby down to 1,775lbs now!!! my quarter mile could be a little better but with a NA ZC dohc engine in a lightened rex.. im running high 14's.... i say strip it if you dont have anything else to do and you are bored!
Also keep in mind that the weather is cooling right now. So not having A/C is not that big of a deal...........until next spring. Then you will be wishing you had it again. The way I see it, 45 pounds is pretty minimal when compared to the unpleasantness of driving around in a mobile sauna during summer.

But just remove the belt. This will leave open the possibility of having A/C in the future, should you need it.

Remember though, when the AC clutch is not engaged, the pulley free-wheels on the bearings on the compressor. You can spin it with your hand, using one finger. Just leave the AC off and it's like it's not there to the engine.

Removing PS would be a much better idea. I think it's in the newest (or second newest) SCC mag that it has an article about removing power steering and getting some hp back. I'll try and find it if I can..
The only luxury options I'd want to have is power windows and AC. If it had power locks I wouldn't remove them, but I wouldn't go as far as installing them. My car is a daily driver, so I don't care about saving weight or a couple hp. If I decided to make my car for track, then hell yes I would strip the **** out of it.

its a daily driver so you dont care about removing weight and adding free hp? Part of the allure of driving a heavily modded car daily is that you are driving a car to and from work that is more at home on a dragstrip. maybe my kind is a minority.
It just baffles me that so many people in the Honda camp are willing to drive a tin can on wheels with stripped interiors that buzz and rattle, no a/c heat etc...just to be able to run a 14.9 instead of a 15.2 had all that been left in place.
And then you come to an intersection with a Camaro or a Mustang and these guys are running low 13's, usually 12's with full interior, sound systems, all the power options etc.
Knowing that they'll still mutilate you with their A/C on and at half throttle makes the thought of driving a 14 second tin sauna on wheels seem very stupid.
To me, the idea of making a fast honda that's still very pleasant to drive, cool and comfortable is the real challenge.

the power steering pump is constantly pumping fluid, the AC pully is disengaged when off.
Now maybe if you put an AC clutch on a PS pump you could turn it off for straight line racing
