what kind of resin to put onto cf
hey i just got a whole bunch of cf and fg super damn cheap on ebay, i just need to know if i can use the fg resin that you can get at home depot or autozone on my carbon fiber, the bottle says fiberglass resin, just need to know if i can use the resin on the carbon fiber, and if not, what resin do i use, thanks i appreciate it
I have used West Systems resin with alot of success. The guy who started me out with carbon fiber made panels for Kart racing cars using it, so it ain't too bad. I get mine at a boating supply place.
thanks, do you know of any place like lowes or something that would carry that stuff, any specialty shops, hell like sports authority or dicks or something, for boat repair, caz i dont know of any boat shops around nova, thanks

last I checked, glass is strongest with epoxy.
as for young noob, ask other people what brand and type of system they used and how was the workability, finish, etc. as well as what the part was used for (dashboard dressup **** may not work the same when used for a hood). DO NOT GO TO A STORE and use something that say "works with fiberglass". Lastly, check the sticky for where to buy

West systems is pretty expensive. I'm not saying it's poor quality. I just don't like throwing money away.
There's epoxy out there that's significantly cheaper then West and also high quality. The system we sell is $50/gallon and the hardener is included for free. Retail price on a west system epoxy is about 50% more per gallon.

You refer to "the system" you sell, but you never said what it's called.
I'm all for saving money, but West Systems has served me well. I am wide open to something cheaper with the same or better quality though.
Is it a slow or quick speed catylist that you include with the resin? I use the slow setting west systems hardner so I have time to work with it.

"epoxy"
Set time is three to four hours at 80F. We go to a quicker set in the winter.
