hub bearing? or axle?
alright so im driving 2 days ago and then all of a sudden it feels like it goes out of gear and stays in nuetral, luckily i was pulling into the mall parking lot when it happened. Well i get the car towed to my house and i take it apart. i check the inner cv joint, its fine, so i spin my rotor and i notice its not spinning the axle, i take off the boot i guess on the hub and i see lots of smashed up metal pieces. its the part that comes with the axle when you buy it, well i see the bearing is a metal cage type thing with 5 or 6 big metal *****. that cage is broken into 4 pieces. could i just buy a reman axle to fix this?
since i noticed my reman axle for the other side comes with this piece, i tried taking the bearing out of my other reman axle to see if i can maybe put it into my thing on the car but its impossible to pull it out....so will a reman axle fix this or do i need to get a new hub bearing put in and all that bullshit? it seems like just a reman axle would fix this since it comes on new reman axles....please tell me what i need to do....

Sounds like you chunked an axle.

I thought I did, from the way you described it anyway.

so theres no way of taking this out from my extra reman axle for the other side and putting it into my axle right now?....just that bearing is what i need, it shattered..
With the axle broken off, you can dismantle that CV joint. Tilt the center spider & take out the *****. Normally, you'd have to take the axle out first, since it prevents the spider from tilting far enough to get the ***** out.
Once you get the ***** out you can remove the cage & spider. Then hope you can get the broken axle stub out from the spider.
Keep the *****, spider & outer bell together as a set. Don't scramble them together with the other CV joint.

no thats not a picture i took, im just using it as reference...well my reman axle has the axle connected to that swirly thing which is connected to the ***** in that cage.....my broken axle is the axle, connected to the swirly ger thing but the ***** with the cage is now out because it shattered....so is it possible to take the swirly thing and bearing off my new reman axle and switch it over to my axle thats in the car now?

get a new axle with a lifetime warranty and be done with it. don't try and put them back together unless you like hanging out in the mall parking lot looking at the ladies in your broken car.

You can replace the outer c/v joint if that's what your going on about.

The center part where the axle stub goes. In that picture, the axle stub is broken off in the spider, but a new CV joint would have an open hole for your axle.
I suppose they won't take your busted one for a core if you get a reman axle assembly. But I'm not real sure, so it's worth a phone call. But why not just use your reman axle?
Generally the axle is held in by a spring clip. Sometimes there's an opening where you reach in with a snap-ring pliers. Some are make like the inner end of the axle, so you pound it out with a mallet.

whatever, im pretty sure its not as easy to take it apart like it is the inner cv joint....so are the left side and right side axles any different? i have a drivers side reman axle that i used for the inner cv joint, the one i just broke was the passenger side...can i just switch over my inner cv joint to the drivers side reman axle and use it as a passenger side axle??
Chiovnidca: you said i could replace it...how would i go about doing this, i looked on my extra axle and ive tried pulling it out, pulling the bearing out, everything and it doesnt seem like it will come out...thank you

On my Saabs & VWs it's a spring clip sorta like where the inner axle stub snaps into the differential. You flex the outer CV joint as far as it goes & use a mallet to pound it off from the axle shaft.
Chiovnidca, does Honda do it that same way? You don't usually hear about doing that 'cause it's pretty cheap to get a reman axle.

ive tried turning the joint as far over as i can and pounding the **** out of it. it didnt budge at all, should i hit harder? is it even possible to hit disconnect the axle from the other pieces without a machine? and no one has answered yet if i can use a drivers side axle on the passenger side....
Don't keep pounding until Chio confirms that Honda CV joints come off that way.
If you take the tripod bearing off, are the R & L side axles exactly the same length? I'm not sure.

Yea, sounds like the same setup. Usually a couple good whacks with a BFH will knock the outer joint off the shaft. Just a spring clip in there like you described. We used to do a lot of them before Honda started selling reman axles cheaper.

Once the old one is off just knock the new one on. Make sure to center up the clip before you smack it.
