Salvage titles?
How many of you own cars with salvage titles? I was looking at a car, found out it was a salvage title, and thought the price was a little high considering the value (insurance wise) is not close to a clear title. So, how many have bought salvages either finished or repaired them yourself?
buying a car on a salvage title isn't necessarily bad. just know that it will lower the resale. check all the suspension/frame/alignment. if its theft, just see what was/needs to be replaced. say it was a theft, and they stole the seats and they were replaced. who gives a ****?
it was, however, for me, a mistake because mine was a salvage title and i did not check out the frame well enough.
short answer: just do your homework on the car and check it out thoroughly.

My car was a Salvage title/ theft. My seats where stolen, my cd player stolen and rims. One bad thing was when they broke into my car they messed up the ignation so i had to use 2 diffrent keys. One to open the doors and the other to start the car. Easy fix is to buy an alarm with keyles entry on it. As for my insurance goes, noting changed, they didnt even ask me if it was salavage our not. All in all it was worth it..
i bought a salvaged title car i did the research and i found that the owner didnt lie to me when he said it was a theft recovery. its an 96 ls but i guess the car was stripped when recovered so they put a 98+ front end, gsr black leather interior (full, carpet, dash, gauge, everything), it even came with a cd player! it turned out to be a good deal for me...so thumbs up to the advice of doing your research.
I have bought salvages titled cars x2, and I bought rebuilt titled cars x1. They all had gone through the inspection and they were great. Still driving one and sold the other two and had no real resale issues.

My current GSR is a restored salvage title due to theft. I could care less, nothing wrong with the car at all. Runs and drives great, all that was jacked from the previous owner was the motor and seats.

I have owned a couple salvage titles before, one a theft (that I got decent money for) and the other a collision (that I got nothing for, and it was Civic). A theft would probably be the easiest for me to deal with.
The car I was looking at is a rear end collision. It is a 95 GSR coupe w/140K miles. The car looks very nice (custom paint, I/H/E, lightened flywheel, short throw shifter, wheels, NOS, shaved everything, Compustar). Car was listed for $8K, but now has significant hail damage. It is listed for $5500, but I was wondering if insurance covers a vehicle like that for that money?
So, I guess I have other questions:
Do you let your insurance company know all the work that is done to your car? Do you have receipts, etc to show all the money that is in your car? Or, do you have substandard insurance (to your vehicles true value)?

bought my integra from my babys mama. totalled it. converted it to jdm
has a salvaged title.
the only reason they totalled the car was because of air bag damage, $4500-$5000 worth of airbag damage. F'n BS.
Still own it love it and dont care about a salvaged title.
