im sure this has been answered 1,000 times and I did search...could find anything...The DSL here is messed up we are having "speed issues" so until they resolve that my connection is real slow, so searching function is slow for me. So theres my excuse heres my question:
the trim that runs right down the middle of the door (the moulding) how do I remove it without breaking the clips? I cant get to the backside because the side impact beam...so whats the trick...It looks like it may be possible to slide it off...but no. any help would be highly apreciated! thanks!
for reference this item...

I know exactly what you are talking about having removed the trim from my 89 hatchback. The impact beam prevents you from releasing the clips!
In theory, it would be possible to remove the one threaded stud and slide the piece off the the clips. That's the theory.
On the hatchbacks, there are two plastic pieces at each clip location. You can buy the one that goes through the door panel (I think they are a green color). You can't buy the other one without buying the complete trim piece (They are black).
So, if you don't want to buy a new trim piece, plan on going by a junk yard to get replacement black clips for any that break.

I've always done it this way, with no problems, and very rarely do I end up breaking clips. Just get a thin flathead screwdriver and remember to use the shop towel so you don't scratch the paint:
